Virtualisation and Systems Engineer

Our client based in Portsmouth, requires a Virtulisation & Systems Engineer to join their team.

Job profile:

The successful candidate will join a team responsible for the virtualising of an operational control centre.

The successful candidate will have deep knowledge of and extensive experience with VMware and multiple storage systems from every angle including optimization and troubleshooting, virtual Switches and networking. In particular strong experience of designing VMWare based solutions is required including ideally porting established operational systems onto a virtualised architecture.
A strong background in Linux (ideally to system administrator level) is also mandatory. This should include the ability to troubleshoot linux software installation scripts and to configure remote package management (RPM).
Experience of formal design and producing high quality documentation is essential.
The candidate must be a motivated self-starter that can quickly adjust to changing priorities, support multiple projects at the same time, and meet published deadlines. The candidate will need to demonstrate an overall excellent technical ability coupled with the ability to work independently.

Qualifications and/or Skills -

Essential:
Expert level Vmware skills,
Strong Linux administration skills
Understanding of networking,
Unix Scripting.

Desirable: Detailed knowledge of SUSE Linux Exterprise Server

Previous Experience -

Essential:
Experience in VMWare ESX
previous experience of virtualised system design, experience of formal design
Must be able to demonstrate a high standard of written and verbal literacy

Desirable:
Experience of porting applications between different versions of Linux, experience of configuring and installing VMWare.

The role is based in Portsmouth but business travel in Europe may be required.
