Unix/Linux System Administrator

UNIX SYSTEM ADMIN IN SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA

DURATION: 9 MONTHS+

START: 1-2 WEEKS

JOB SUMMARY: 

Maintain operations of the Company computing infrastructure by ensuring the proper functioning of Servers, Unix/Linux operating systems, directory services, storage, enterprise applications and common network services. Ensure consistent levels of performance by adhering to standards and best practices. Provide management with current operating conditions and recommendations for improvements to the security and performance of the computing infrastructure.

Build and maintain server hardware and software systems to provide  Company with an optimal computing environment. Implement and sustain reliable operations of Unix-based ERP and database applications. Collaborate with BIS team members to review opportunities, challenges, and practices.

Provide UNIX server hardware and operating system subject matter expertise to various application and inter-disciplined corporate projects. Continuously upgrade skill sets to remain current with installed systems.

Work with BIS staff in the implementation of new technologies to enhance application performance and use productivity. Aid project planning by providing cost and time estimates of the proposed work.

Maintain infrastructure inventory; tracking location, current use, configuration, hardware/software/firmware version, and support and upgrade information. Track the availability and location of original media sets, and spare parts for the various system services components.

Monitor server performance and end user experience by utilizing software tools for efficient and proper operations. Communicate performance results through periodic reports and dashboards.

Serve as a liaison to various vendor partners, including roles as project manager, point of contact for application support partners, and local subject matter expert. 

Recommend and implement procedures in support of Data Center Recovery and Business Continuity Planning as well as regular or as-needed backup/restore processing.

Support business and technical users by providing solid and extensible infrastructure. Provide foundation and support for Application Development needs; Support Management team with communication and recommendations for stability and growth.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

This job function requires excellent oral and written communication and listening skills; as well as tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external partnerships.

Preference for candidates working in large computing environments.

Required:
Linux experience (RedHat or Oracle) in a clustered server environment;
Storage Array Network and fiber channel switching experience

Preferred:
HPUX experience, Networked Attached Storage (NAS) skills;
OVM and VMWare experience, specifically with cloning and High Availability (HA).
