Linux Administrator
3 Month Contract
Up to €475 per day
Nr Antwerp, Belgium
My client, a leading pharmaceutical organisation has an exciting opportunity for a Linux Administrator to join their team onsite in Belgium. As a Linux Administrator, you will be responsible for the creation of new operating system images which are integrated with management tools. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in working with SAN, NAS and CIFS based storage systems as well as being fluent in Dutch and English.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
*Release Management
*Creation of new operating system images which are integrated with management tools like backup, monitoring, scheduling, etc.
*Creation of new patch release bundles
*Manage software depots for vendor and J&J tools
*Creation of new versions of vendor tools
*Provide Level 3 On-call support for UNIX/Linux technology within a team on a rotating calendar basis
*Manage escalations within the own technology area
*Assist operations in fulfillment of complex requests.
*Document procedures in guidelines, work-instructions, checklists.
*Perform health checks of existing systems
*Provide details plans for complex deployments
*Review implementation plans
*Design and Build Linux/Unix related services based on requirements
*Deploy and support Linux/Unix services.
*Assist operations in complex troubleshooting
*Set up proof of concepts for new designs
*Support regular Disaster Recovery Rehearsals
*Provide on-site (?) support during critical maintenance activities
*Develop new procedures and automate procedures to manage the Linux ecosystem
*Perform Knowledge Transition to other teams using documentation like Knowledge Articles and online or classroom based training sessions
*Follow existing ITIL procedures to manage Changes, Incidents and Problems.
Key Knowledge and Skills
*Expert knowledge on Linux operating systems (RedHat and SuSe)
*Advanced knowledge on Unix operating systems (HPUX (preferred), Solaris)
*Proficient in linux/unix based utilities
*Proficient with Shell-Scripting
*Practical experience in working with SAN, NAS and CIFS based storage systems
*Knowledgeable on virtualization and hypervisor technologies
*Expert knowledge on unix/linux security
*Advanced Knowledge on network security
*Familiar with Clustering techniques (ServiceGuard, Heartbeat)
*Familiar with Disaster Recovery tools (REAR for Linux, Ignite for HPUX)
*Exceptional Troubleshooting and analytical skills
*Since we're working in an international context, communication skills are very important.
*Being stress resistant is important for supporting our Business Critical Applications.
*Good Documentation skills
*Focus on proactive support and eager to actively engage in continuous system improvement initiatives
*Able to work in Agile development environment
*Project management skills are appreciated
*Knowledgeable of Storage Replication methodologies
*Familiar with OS tools for performance monitoring and tuning
*Understand network topologies
*Working in global teams
