JOB PURPOSE

The Solutions Architect is responsible for defining end to end solutions across projects or products.

The Solutions Architect typically ensure that all project/product technical paths are designed appropriately and cleanly with low cost solutions and that all project/product technical issues and risks are managed appropriately and resolved in a timely manner. The Solutions Architect is also expected to engage directly with Project Managers (or equivalent) and provide the structured technical framework within which the IT solutions should be designed and subsequently delivered driving forward the solution delivery and any impact assessments, evaluations, product selections and POC's as required.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Solutions Architect is accountable for the following core activities:

- Responsible for ensuring that the end-to-end technical solution is compatible with the strategic technical architecture. ie create the technical solution jointly with both internal and 3rd party suppliers, Architects and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Perform technical risk assessments during project initiation, then monitor and control the technical Solution risks throughout the life cycle of the project.
- Take responsibility for resolving all project technical risks.
- Jointly liaise with the Enterprise Architects and Delivery Managers to ensure appropriate delivery processes are used for cost effectiveness, efficiency and TCO measures.
- Maintain an excellent knowledge systems as they evolve, how these systems support the business, how these systems interact with other corporate applications, and their place in the overall IT architecture.
- Generate and objectively evaluate technical solution options for highly complex or demanding requirements often of high significance. Ensure evaluation and other documents produced are suitable for the assigned design/development team to work from as their starting point.
- Work with others such as business experts and technical architects, providing expert technical advice and information in a clear well-communicated manner

In addition you will be expected to:

- Support the Domain architect to maintain a deep and wide understanding of systems, services and capabilities and the interdependencies between them.
- Propagate and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Operate within the overall Architecture team aligning with and contributing to the TUI Enterprise architecture framework.
- Generate an environment which encourages collaboration, communication, knowledge sharing and openness.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

You will have an understanding of:

- A broad range of technologies and architectural approaches and a pragmatic approach to their application.
- Integration approaches and their application in a highly complex heterogeneous environment.
- Service Oriented Architecture and its application across a broad range of domains.
- The Unified Modelling Language and BPMN for requirements definition and for systems design.
- Project methodologies such as Prince2 and Scrum with other incremental development/refactoring approaches.
- Architectural implications of performance, scalability and extensibility on system design and approaches.

You will have practical experience of:

- Translating complex architectural issues to non-technical staff within the business.
- Facilitating a joint understanding of the outcomes of technology change and eliciting clear statements of requirements.
- Delivering large scale, multi-project technical solutions throughout the entire development life cycle from inception to operation.
- Working with highly technical staff and outsource teams, working on multiple projects towards a common end goal throughout the development life cycle.
- Reviewing low level technical designs and/or code created.
