Technical Writer for Patents

WA Consultants has an urgent requirement for an experienced Technical Writer/Technical liaison (Patents) to work and support and single point contact between a Future Infotainment Team and our Client's (an Automotive OEM) global Patents Department in order to support and facilitate the protection of intellectual property originating from pre-development activities conducted by the team.

The role will involve inspecting/identifying new and innovative ideas, features and technical solutions created by the team and drafting, with the support of the inventors, detailed technical descriptions which can be fed into the Patent Department's patent creation process for eventual preparation and filing as patent applications.

The successful applicant will be required to liaise with the patent specialist or patent attorney engaged to prepare the patent applications, to provide technical support and to facilitate communication between the attorney and the inventors. Preparing detailed technical descriptions of inventions for feeding into an invention management software (ANAQUA) for review by the patent specialists and attorneys within the business global Patents Department

Liaising with the patent specialists and attorneys to support the preparation of patent applications and facilitating communications between the attorneys and the inventors
Conducting patent and technology searches to identify new innovation opportunities and facilitate patent preparation
Promoting an IP-aware culture across the wider Infotainment group.

Experience Required:

3 key skills;
Preparing detailed technical descriptions of inventions for feeding into invention management processes
Conducting patent/technology searches to identify relevant background information (prior art)
Strong communicator, verbal/written

Education Required:

Preparing detailed technical descriptions of inventions for feeding into the Client's invention management software (ANAQUA)
The person should have a broad knowledge of all the technologies used in Infotainment
Experience of Identifying potentially protect-able IP (ideas, inventions, features, technical solutions etc.) arising from up-coming projects
Conducting patent/technology searches to identify relevant background information (prior art)

Education Preferred:

You should be able to understand the inventions that are submitted and where appropriate advise the inventor on if sufficient detail has been supplied. If insufficient detail, advise engineer on the appropriate level of detail. Proactive in talking to the engineers to see what they are working on and encouraging them to add to the feature hopper for early ideas or go straight to Anaqua for more substantial ideas/inventions The person should be able to lead others on writing documentation, flowcharts etc to explain the invention, but should not be relied on to invent missing parts of the submission Monitoring R&D projects"
