Technical Writer

Create a broad range of written deliverables in support of enterprise-class commercial software, including but not limited to API developer guides, user guides, on-line help, administrator manuals and the like. As a member of our R&D team, the Technical Writer will be responsible for developing new and revising existing documentation in support of several product lines. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will analyze release plans and initial code to develop a writing plan. They will interview programmers, managers and marketers to ensure that any literature meets the needs as defined by the product roadmap strategy. They will create the documents and add graphics, while testing the software and/or services to determine if instructions are correct. If the plan includes online guides, writers ensure that the text meshes with the code for displaying the guides. Finally, they oversee production of manuals, which must join the software in time for distribution. 

REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor's degree in IT, technical writing, communications, journalism, or English.
- 3+ years of software technical writing
- Experience with XML-based tools to create on-line help
- Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint
- Experience with HTML coding for design and readability
- Experience with programming languages including J2EE, JavaScript, C++, C#, .NET, PHP, Python, etc.
- Experience with book design, page layout, readability requirements, and audience targeting
- A record of successful delivery of a variety of user, administrator, and developer focused documentation for commercial software systems
- Able to create, review and manage writing projects for complex systems and negotiate conflicting features with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners to get things done.
- Proficient in English 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Prior experience writing for commercial SaaS and PaaS environments
- Prior experience with page layout, design and graphic production programs such as Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong understanding of the software development cycle, specifically Agile/SCRUM
- Multi-Lingual (Spanish & Chinese) a significant plus
