Description:
The Datacom department is in charge of:
• the datacom transport network for the Elia IP networks and IT networks in general. Elia has an extensive network of fibre and copper cables, supplemented by rented connections. The technologies in use at Elia include PDH, SDH, DWDM, FC and IP/MPLS,
• the IP/Ethernet/WiFi networks used for telephony and core business needs (office network, real-time network, …) in all of Elia's administrative sites, data centres and dispatching offices,
• direct IP connections with other electricity transport, distribution and generation utilities,
• Internet connections,
• the protection and securing of Elia networks with firewalls, DMZs (Demilitarised Zones), VPN concentrators, and similar,
•the networks connecting high-voltage substations and data centres for purposes of remote surveillance, telephony, meter readings, consulting disturbance recorders, ... These networks are also used for communication between the electrical protection devices at different stations. Work has already begun to migrate these networks from TDM technology (PDH, SDH) to packet-switched technology (Ethernet, IP, MPLS),
•connections with other TSOs for remote surveillance, remote protection, and telephony.

Responsibilities:
Our client is looking for a project manager for the following projects:

• Fibre and Copper Cable Infrastructure (50%):
- high level inventory management of existing cable infrastructure,
- needs collection and consolidation in close cooperation with several Elia Departments: GD (Grid Development), Datacom, TGX (Technical Governance and Expertise), IPM (Infrastructure Project Management), ASM (Assets and System Maintenance),
- translate needs in projects fitting budgetary and strategic constraints,
- management of master plan, which gives a high level geographical view of existing and future infrastructure,
- high level project management in cooperation with IPM
- technical solution design: e.g. splice drawings for connecting new cables to backbone

• IP Deployment in High Voltage Substations (25%)
- organisation of cross-departmental (IT, TGX, OMM, IPM) bi-monthly meetings for information exchange, challenging by senior management, high level project status and progress reporting of IP Deployment
- needs collection and consolidation in close cooperation with several Elia Departments: TGX, Datacom, OMM (Operation, Maintenance and Methods), ...
- interface partner for Elia projects which heavily rely on IP Deployment (Asset Control Center, Connectivity of Workforce in substations, Remote Maintenance, ...)
- high-level project management

• Technical Project Management (25%)
- project management and status reporting,
- participation in RFP processes (e.g. private satellite communication)

Technical skills:
• should hold a master's degree in telecommunications engineering, or have equivalent technical experience in this field,
• must have an all-round theoretical, practical and operational knowledge of WAN and LAN networks and technologies: SDH, PDH, access (X.21, G.703, E&M), Optical Modems, SHDSL modems, Routing, Switching, Fibre Cables, Copper Cables, Cabling Technologies, ...,

Personal skills:
• You are able to speak, read and write fluently Dutch, French and English.
• must have strong analytical skills,
• must have strong project management skills,
• must have strong skills for portfolio management and strategical consolidation of needs,
• must have very strong written and oral communication skills, including cross-departmental communication and communication with senior management
• must be willing to continuously refine and broaden his/her technical knowledge of WAN and LAN networks,
• needs to be able to work independently and methodically,
• needs to be customer-oriented and cope well with stress,
• needs to be a team-player and willing to share knowledge
• must be able to assimilate new technical information quickly,
