Are you a GRADE SCHOOL TEACHER looking to gain a unique perspective and blend of experience working alongside First Nation students? We are looking for passionate, reliable teachers who can work as a team at the Abraham Beardy Memorial School located in SHAMATTAWA, MANITOBA.
OUR VACANCIES AT THIS TIME:
- 1 position for a Grade 5 classroom teacher
- 1 position for a Grade 6 classroom teacher
MORE ABOUT OUR SMALL COMMUNITY: Shamattawa is a fly-in First Nation community with a population of approximately 1,000 people and is accessible by plane only. During winter time, winter road becomes available, allowing residents to drive to neighboring communities.
If you are ABLE TO START IMMEDIATELY AND YOU CAN HANDLE LIVING IN A REMOTE LOCATION: this one year contract with possibility of extension is MADE FOR YOU!
PLEASE NOTE: You must be a CERTIFIED TEACHER with MANITOBA CERTIFICATION UNIT to qualify, but we accept candidates that are currently undergoing certificate process, as well as newly qualified teachers/graduates.

With a POPULATION OF APPROXIMATELY 1000, lies on the banks of the God's River in beautiful Northern Manitoba. The SPOKEN LANGUAGE IS CREE but most people have a GOOD WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH.
THE TOWN IS A 2 HOUR FLIGHT NORTH OF WINNIPEG AND A 1 HOUR FLIGHT EAST OF THOMPSON.
Hunting for moose, caribou, and geese are popular events in the community and there are trappers who take fox, rabbits, pine marten, timber wolves, lynx, and wolverines. There is a variety of fish such as Northern Pike, Pickerel, Whitefish, Sturgeon, and Brook Trout. The Spring and Fall are beautiful times of the year and the Winter is great for snow sports but can get quite cold (-40).
