The Systems Administrator is responsible for the management and support of the organization's IT systems on a day-to-day basis. Duties include the design, security, installation, implementation, and monitoring of IT systems. Systems Administrators possess a very high level of specialized knowledge in one or more areas of technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Performs the following functions with moderate supervision, engaging Senior Systems Administrators or Supervisor when needed to review and provide recommendations or to escalate problems.
- Administer the network of Linux/MS Windows-based systems.
- Analyze system performance to identify deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
- Monitor Linux/MS Windows-based systems to maximize system up-time and to provide timely response to problems.
- Accept assignments and new responsibilities from System Administrators or Management.
- Provide high quality technical knowledge and consulting services to internal clients.
- Complete assignments with strict attention to timeline and budget.
- Develop an understanding of business issues and goals in order to provide appropriate technical solutions.
- Maintain and enhance proficiency with tools and technologies used by the Server team.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience in a related discipline
- Ability to function as a technical resource for projects involving multiple IT disciplines
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training end users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management
- 2 - 5 years previous Linux/MS Windows-based system administration experience
- Solid understanding of Linux/MS Windows-based operating systems including: file system and volume management concepts, antivirus, backup tools, performance analysis and system tuning, and system security
- Solid understanding of most of the following technology and concepts: clustering software, Active Directory, group policies, MS Exchange, System Center, VMWare virtual server technologies, networking technologies and principles, and SAN concepts
- Ability to create scripts in an administrative language (Perl, PowerShell, Windows Scripting, VBScript, etc.)
- Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve complex problems
- Documented training or professional certifications
