SYSTEM INTEGRATOR - MS WINDOWS, AD, SCRIPTING, SHAREPOINT 2010
For a project with the European Commission in Luxembourg we are looking for a System Integrator.
CONTEXT/INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES
The European Commission profile can be summarised as follows:
- More than 30.000 PCs run Microsoft operating systems (mostly Windows 7, some Windows XP) geographically distributed over a hundred different buildings (mainly Luxembourg and Brussels),
- The PCs are connected across a LAN/WAN infrastructure to more than 3.000 Servers (mostly Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2003 Servers, some Network Attached Storage devices and UNIX/Linux Servers),
- More than 300 different desktop applications are used for word processing, e-mailing, workflow management, database access, administration management, financial systems, programming, etc.
The Commission uses "Reference Configurations" for all Windows client and server platforms,
integrating the operating system and commonly used software into compact packages which are easy
to deploy.
DIGIT.A.2 runs a competence centre for the Reference Configurations. The team regularly produces
Reference Configurations for each supported hardware platform and for supported operating systems.
The objective of this specific contract is the reinforcement of this team at DIGIT. A.2.
DESCRIPTION OF TASKS
- Automated system installation procedures have been developed for the deployment of the Reference Configurations on desktops, laptops and Servers. Supported operating system versions are currently Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2003. These procedures are currently extended to cover Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
- The Windows operating system, the Internet Explorer web browser and several other components in the Reference Configurations are very much customised and locked down using policies (local policies, GPOs). These policies need to be overhauled and reviewed.
- The policies have to be enhanced to also cover the Windows 8.1 and the Windows Server 2012 R2 operating systems, plus the Internet Explorer 11 web browser that comes along.
- Operating system related policy settings and application related policy settings are currently mixed. They should be separated from each other, including a reorganisation of user and machine policy settings. All policy settings should to be compliant with Microsoft's Security Compliance Manager (SCM).
- Group Policies shall be managed through Microsoft's Advance Group Policy Management (AGPM).
- The technical documentation of Reference Configuration solutions is crucial, comprising release notes, user guides, documentation of procedures etc.
- Second level technical support needs to be provided for the existing Reference Configurations, including problem diagnosis, resolution and reporting via the Central Helpdesk. The support is organised in an ITIL-compliant manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
The Commission will provide all required hardware and software.
OTHER PRECISIONS
Required skills:
- Proven experience in the abovementioned tasks is essential
- Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating systems family (Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2003, Windows 7, Windows XP).
- Excellent knowledge of Windows networking and of the Active Directory (Group Policies etc.).
- Very good knowledge of common Microsoft Scripting languages (eg PowerShell, VBscript) and programming languages (eg C++, C#, VB.NET, etc ...).
- Good knowledge of Windows installation and deployment tools, based on Scripting and cloning techniques.
- Good knowledge of the SharePoint 2010 platform, which is the foundation of the Reference Configuration team's Change Management system.
- English and/or French (spoken fluently), very good technical writing skills in English and/or French.
- Ability to participate in multi-lingual meetings (English and French spoken), ease of communication in technical matters, very good communication skills.
- Capability of working in an international/multi-cultural environment, rapid self-starting skills and experience in team working, understanding the needs, objectives and constraints of those in other disciplines and functions.
- Certification of ITIL for service delivery and service support is considered an asset.
