System Engineer and Redhat Linux and Vmware/Vsphere

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION VMWARE/LINUX SPECIALIST:

For a client in the Schiphol (Amsterdam) region, we are seeking a System Engineer (Specialist), with the following skills and experience:

- Red Hat Linux
- VMware
- Microsoft

The selected Specialist will be expected to 'jump aboard a riding train', thus be able to grasp the clients situation(s)readily. He/she will be required to participate in a extremely dynamic environment, and expected to demonstrate considerable flexibility.

Expected Tasks:

1. VMWare vSphere
## Daily Administration & troubleshooting

vCenter server (VCSA):
Check consistency vCenter server & OS (CLI)
Check monitoring, tasks, events, logs vCenter server & OS (CLI)
Check update status Vcenter server on VCSA service console

vCenter server vSphere:
Check consistency vCenter server on vSphere
Check monitoring, tasks, events, logs vCenter server on vSphere

vSphere ESXI hosts:
Check consistency all Esxi-hosts
Check update status all Esxi-hosts
Check for new update packages or new release Esxi-hosts at "vmware" & "dell"
Check monitoring, tasks, events, logs Esxi-hosts

vSphere HA failover cluster:
Check consistency HA cluster "test-dev-cluster".
Check resources HA-cluster.
Check all vm's still connected to HA-cluster.
Check monitoring, tasks, events, logs HA-cluster

vSphere Network:
Check consistency network connections
Check consistency VLAN's & Portgroups
Check monitoring, tasks, events, logs Network connections

vSphere Compellent Storage:
Check consistency Datastores
Check HBA connections Datastores to Compellent Compellent Storage
Check monitoring, tasks, events, logs Datastores 

2. Linux & Windows

Check consistency all management Servers
performance issues
performance resources
hardening & security
loggings
Check all active services and applications on all mgmt Servers: BIND/DNS cluster, IPA LDAP cluster, PXE/TFTPD Provisioning, Postfix mail cluster, Amanda backup, ISC DHCP, Cfengine,
Rsyslog logging, Nagios monitoring, NFS Servers & exports, Squid Proxy
compellent Storage Manager etc.

3. Hardware Dell M1000e Cabinet's and Blades M620n
## Daily Administration

Contacting Dell Sales
Consistency Dell 1000e Cabinets' hardware
Consistency Dell M620 Blades hardware
Check iDRAC management (connections & manager)
Checking and testing new firmware for all Dell hardware
Checking and testing new software for all Dell hardware

4. Compellent Storage Center 21786 & SC8000
## Daily Administration

Check consistency Compellent Storage
Check consistency attached Hardware devices and interfaces (HBA, Fiber, Ethernet)
Check consistency attached Hard-disks
Check consistency Data Volumes (RAID, Logical volumes, etc.)
Check consistency HBA & Fiber-channels connections to vSphere HBA's and FC's.

5. Other daily tasks
Documenting and keep-up documents.
Infoblox IP-management (IP-plan).
Monitoring and status in Jira/confluence (tasks & documents).
Monitoring and status in Service Now (changes & incidents).
Answering questions colleagues.
Advising and discussing about issues and problems.
Reading and searching technical information.
Informing about RHN errata (RedHat Networking) issues.
Informing about VMWare (vmware.com) issues.
Check, setup and answering mail.
Supporting colleagues.

6. Other Tasks

Create update/upgrade plans
Execute updates & upgrades
Set & admin of Automation environment wide.

Troubleshooting environment wide & EIT

OS (Linux, Windows)

Create update/upgrade plans

Setup & administration Automation on overall environment.
Deploy new systems on Test, Dev, Production, Staging, PreProd.
Administration, installation, configuration & troubleshooting systems in Prod, Stage, PreProd, Test,

Dev (Mia & AMS).
Development on overall environment.
Troubleshooting & support EIT systems.
Supporting colleagues like: AM, BO, BI, DEV, EIT, users, etc.
Advise & Approval changes in Prod, Preprod, Stage, Test, Dev.
Steering and control changes made by IR & TM in Prod, Stage, Preprod, Dev, Test.
