System Administrator in Laboratory Informatics Support

Harvey Nash is looking for a System Administrator in Laboratory Informatics Support for a 7 + month project in Switzerland.

The role is for someone, who has experience with IT Support in the Laboratory area.

You are responsible for

- Providing technical support, training, and assistance to students, faculty, and staff in a computer lab environment; analysing problems and implementing solutions according to Department guidelines and procedures; performing network and server administrator duties, and assuring system stability, accessibility, and proper configuration of assigned technical systems and components
- Performing computer troubleshooting to diagnose system problems; analysing hardware and software functionality; identifying, locating, resolving and repairing problems within scope of authority; documents call records and results
- Monitoring scientific environment; resolving configuration and connectivity issues, and other traffic, security, and access problems; checking network for operating efficiency, making corrective adjustments to data management settings, and assuring system integrity; sets up and repairs network hardware
- Maintaining and updating workstations and Servers, equipment, and peripherals; researching and testing new software; installing software upgrades and enhancements; using imaging software to create and deploy desktop computers (Acronis).
- Responding to the needs and inquiries of students, faculty, and staff; explaining IT issues, deploying solutions, and following up with users to assure the stability and functionality of the users' systems
- Monitoring physical security of assigned department assets; controlling access to premises, observing user activities and facility utilization shifts, providing materials, training, and assistance as needed
- Reporting technical problems which need to be addressed by improved policies or procedures
- Providing technical support to students and instructors to assist in the training of students, faculty, and staffing on software applications usage; facilitating one-on-one instruction and group workshops
- Collecting, compiling, analysing and presenting reports for technical and administrative information; may include facility usage and resource utilization
- Administration and maintenance principles of network Servers, relational databases, and web- and windows/Linux-based software applications
- The structure and operating capabilities of one or more network operating systems
- Network hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques

Requirements

- Deep understanding (+7 years of experience) of scientific systems (eg HPLC, LCMS, MS, NMR)
- Strong capability to perform security related support (Patch Management, KACE, SCCM, Firewalls, and Account Management)
- Ability to support Archive, Storage and Virtual systems used within the research environment
- Experience with network topologics and protocols, and technical Internet knowledge base services
- Experience with using Scripting language (eg Java, Windows PowerShell, and Visual Basic) for computer and web administration (+5 years of experience)
- Experience with solving technical problems involving integrated operating systems and hardware platforms ( years of experience)
- Customer service experience (ability to respond to requests effectively and efficiently in a professional way)
- Fluent English speaking; Nice to have is German speaking
- Knowledge of Acronis would be a plus
