STRUCTURAL ENGINEER (SHIPBUILDING)

BRISTOL

8 MONTHS

£300 - £330 PER DAY.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO UNDERGO SECURITY CLEARANCE FOR THIS POSITION.

* Working closely with the Technical Lead and deployed site representatives

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
* Developing structural solutions to emerging design problems primarily through Rule and first principles determination, but also using computational techniques such as finite element analysis, where required
* Liaison with the Lloyd's Register project team and shipyard deployed ACA engineers
* Ensure Structures Technical Lead is made aware of any issues/implications of technical investigations
* Timely and accurate completion of work allocated
* Progress reporting to the Structures Technical Lead
* Update locally maintained logs and databases
* Ensure configuration control of documentation in accordance with ACA processes
* Attendance at relevant ACA meetings representing the interests of the structures team as required in area of expertise

Skills
Essential
* Ability to produce or modify 2D drawings in AutoCAD format
* Self-motivated with the ability to work in both a team environment and individually as required
* Good awareness of scantling impact on other areas of the design and vice versa
* Good awareness of weight and cost implications of design decisions
* In depth understanding of scantling plans drawing conventions
* Proficient user of Microsoft EXCEL and WORD and ideally MathCAD
* Self-motivated with the ability to work in both a team environment and individually as required

Desirable
* Finite element analysis user or ability to interpret FEA results to develop practical solutions

Experience:
Essential
* Experience in the application of Lloyd's Register's Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Naval Ships
* Practical design experience gained in a ship design/shipbuilding environment
Desirable
* Experience regarding finite element analysis would be beneficial

Qualifications:
Essential
* Engineering degree or equivalent experience with regard to structural design of ships

Due to the nature and urgency of this post, candidates holding or who have held high level security clearance in the past are most welcome to apply. Please note successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment which can take up to a minimum 10 weeks.
