In this Strategic Business Analyst (SBA) role, you will be accountable for supporting the Application Portfolio Management (APM) in the delivery of a program of change. The APM program supports IT staff in the capture and evaluation of the application landscape and the development of opportunities and roadmaps. Role and Responsibilities

- This SBA role is unlike a number of our typical project BA roles. There is no focus on solution delivery for this need and instead is multi-dimensional and requires knowledge of analysis tools and techniques (preferably at the enterprise level); an ability to respond productively to highly ambiguous situations; and an ability to establish the necessary rapport to enable effective mentoring and coaching.
- This SBA role will be expected to provide guidance to other analysts and coach to specific needs and conditions. A strong understanding of client relationship management, business engagement, and facilitation are considered key to success.
- The SBA role will not be supporting solution delivery projects (ie software/hardware delivery). The SBA is a core program team member and will support and advise the Program Team on feedback of the practice, methods and processes that are working and what needs to be changed. The SBA will also be instrumental in facilitating process design and linkage between the APM process and other departmental processes such as Client Engagement, Portfolio Management, Finance and the PMO.

Qualifications

- A solid combination of relevant education, experience and certification will be considered (at a minimum, education and certification must demonstrate a commitment to the craft and purpose of the Analyst role)
- 5+ years of experience in a strategic role, and/or a role supporting the advancement of strategy
- 10+ years of applied experience as a business analyst (preference will be given to candidates who have performed this role with accountabilities beyond project delivery)
- Portfolio Management experience and knowledge (consideration will be given for any of the following areas: Application Portfolio Management; IT Portfolio Management; Finance Portfolio Management; Capital Projects Management (Financial and Resource); Program Analysis
- Formal, hands-on experience with one or more of: business process re-engineering; business process improvement; Six Sigma or other improvement initiatives
- The ability to demonstrate experience with a variety of analysis tools and techniques that extend beyond application/software development including: business case development; statistical analysis; financial analysis; behavior/process change management and communication (including formal methods)
- Knowledge of IT/IS business functions and objectives; specifically the role of Architecture, Business Office and Client Engagement
- Proven ability to facilitate small to large groups using various tools and techniques
- Recent (last 10 years) experience as an analyst in one (or more) of the following areas: Finance, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Public (or Investor) Relations, Sales or Marketing
- Recent (last 10 years) experience as an analyst in one (or more) of the following industries: Crude Oil, Telecommunications, High Technology or Other Commodities
- Proven ability to engage and initiate meaningful, productive conversations
- A high energy plus ability to focus and see tasks through to completion on a deadline, without compromising quality
- Self-organized, passion and enthusiasm
- An enjoyment for environments with a high degree of ambiguity and challenge (and an ability to demonstrate abilities to handle this type of pressure)
- Proven ability to help and assist others through change
- Diplomatic with the ability to handle pressure from resistance (and the ability to think quickly and respond to changing dynamics)
- Proven ability to coach and support objectively (including handling feedback and criticism with poise and understanding)
