STORAGE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR (HPC/UNIX) - SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
In order to consolidate the small system administration team, in a scientific/research computing environment, we are looking for a STORAGE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR (HPC/UNIX, 100%) IN BASEL
- Theteam operates the central, large-scale and high-speed scientific data storage systems and HPC infrastructure.
- The computing environment consists of a Linux cluster with ~8000 cores (including GPUs),~3 PB storage (IBM Spectrum Scale, BeeGFS),
- The virtualization environment (XenServer) for internal management and hosting of web-accessible scientific services,
- The cluster management environment (Ansible, Foreman, EasyBuild, XenServer, InfluxDB, Check_MK, Univa Grid Engine).
TASKS:
- Configuration and operation of the primary large-scale scientific data storage systems (IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS)
- Integrate, deploy and administrate the IBM Spectrum Scale storage infrastructure
- Secure and protect the data (Spectrum Protect/TSM)
- Problem determination and resolution,
- Software/firmware upgrades,
- Implementation of monitoring and support tools.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters in computational sciences or equivalent experience
- Proficient in Linux system administration in a research environment
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience as administrator of IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS (Configuration and operation of storage,performance profiling/tuning, etc) and Spectrum Protect/TSM (back-up, archiving) are required
- HPC management, with tools such as Ansible, EasyBuild, Foreman, XenServer, InfluxDB, Check_MK, Univa Grid Engine
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with networking (TCP/IP and Infiniband)
- Hands-on experience in Scripting, programming (including debugging), and in using version control systems (eg git)
- Interest and ability in surveying, prototyping and deploying advanced storage technologies, such as filesystem-level encryption, HDFS, or alternative data containers (HDF5, SQL and NoSQL databases) in support of our users
- Ability to communicate in English (working language: oral and written), German is a strong plus
