Essential Requirements

•Education to degree level in Computer Science or a similar field or relevant work experience.
•A passion for quality and a tendency to ensure that the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.
•A desire to find innovative and efficient ways of solving problems by writing code or creating technical solutions, summed up with an 'I can create a button to do that' attitude.
•A questioning mind, never accepting anything at face value.
•An 'under the hood' approach to understanding systems and a need to get down to the nuts and bolts of how things work.
•Good coding skills in an Object Oriented Language and a desire to learn C#. It is acceptable for this to be from commercial experience or education.
•A desire to work with the latest software development technologies.
•Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with other team members.

The primary skills that will be acquired during this career progression involve working through a pathway of different jobs. These jobs will cover the broad areas of responsibility within the development department, namely software engineer in test, test environments engineer and product improvement developer.

It is envisaged that by default the post holder will commence their training and work within a Software Engineer in Test role in order to gain experience in broad areas of functionality within the EMIS health care applications and to gain skills in quality assurance that can be taken into development. There may also be instances when an individual's skillset or experience means that they may be better matched to a different starting role.
