SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

ROLE

The role requires involvement in the full software development life cycle from requirements gathering through design and build, testing implementation and outreach.

The individual will provide software development and technical support for the client; implement and test software enhancements; resolve software bugs; feedback on alternative technical solutions and share technical expertise; contribute to the introduction of technical innovations; work to agreed targets and report on progress and issues arising.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Capture and analysis of system requirements
- Develop software applications and application components
- Develop software to provide and consume web services
- Follow the software design and project management methodologies
- Ensure all released software are full tested an fit for purpose

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE

- A degree in a computer related discipline or a degree in any subject with a relevant computing qualification
- Enthusiasm for high quality, customer focused software development
- Experience of the full software development cycle and related methodologies
- Very good knowledge of web-based application programming using Java based technologies
- Very good knowledge of web technologies including HTML/XHTML, CSS, AJAX and JAVASCRIPT
- Good understanding of XML, XSLT, XPATH and related technologies
- Knowledge of providing and consuming web services
- Knowledge of web-enabling issues and standards
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to work in a shared team environment
- Ability to work independently to predefined requirements
- Good problem solving and analytical skills

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE

- Professional experience of delivering web-based Client Server software applications on time and to defined specifications
- Understanding of Apache and Tomcat server technologies
- Experience of programming with Java Server Faces and/or JQuery
- Experience of programming with Restful web services
- Experience of using Eclipse integrated development environment
- Experience of using version control systems such as Subversion
- Experience of using issues tracking software such as JIRA
- Knowledge of project management principles
