Social Worker - Children in Care - Chelmsford Team 1

Must have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes. Must have business car insurance. Must be HPC registered and hold an a current enhanced CRB. Must have Court experience and be able to manage a varied caseload. Must have experience in working in a Children's Social Care environment within a large organisation.

3-6 month Initial Contract

Under the general supervision of a Senior Social Worker (Team Manager) to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the application of resources and seeking modification of attitude and behaviour when required.

Job Purpose

To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Children Act 1989 and other relevant
legislation as directed, in order to ensure that the Directorate meets its statutory duties.

Key Accountabilities

Working to the priority matrix, undertake assessments and formulate care plans.
To manage a caseload of both statutory and preventative work for Children and
Families.
Where appropriate, to participate in multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to their
effectiveness.
To prepare all the necessary paperwork for all attendances at Court, Panels, Child
Protection Conferences, Reviews, and other meetings and take follow up action as
necessary.
To give advice and support to all clients as appropriate.
To participate in and contribute to meetings arranged to discuss the present and
future services of the Directorate.
To undertake any other duties that can reasonably be expected in line with the
grading of the post.
Duties may vary in accordance with local requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

DIPSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent
Relevant Degree
Previous experience in child care field
To have experience of working with other representatives of statutory and
voluntary organizations
Working knowledge of Children Act 1989
Experience of communication with children of all ages.
Basic knowledge of theories underlying social work practice and intervention
Knowledge of and commitment to anti-oppressive practice
Knowledge and understanding of child development
Ability to work as a team member
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally in a style appropriate to the
context
Ability to focus clearly on the child and to employ a child-centred approach
A commitment to working in partnership with parents
Commitment to furthering own knowledge and experience
Commitment to achieving quality Social Work practice
Full driving licence or access to a vehicle for work purposes
