SERVER CONSOLIDATION ENGINEER

SKILLS: Active Directory, Enterprise Level Experience, Windows Server 2000- 2012, VMware, MS SQL Server 2008 and 2012, Data Center

SUMMARY
Our client is looking for an experienced Server Consolidation Engineer to work in concert with IM&O Engineering and Operations in consolidating server assets to centralized data centers. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Research, evaluate and document current server functions
- Convert physical Servers to virtual Servers where applicable
- Migrate physical Servers from the field to centralized data centers where applicable
- Plan and manage VM capacity, SQL capacity, data backup capacity and electrical power capacity
- Plan and manage shared storage (SAN) capacity as it relates to VM and SQL migrations
- Integrate Servers into backup management, asset management and proper Active Directory structure
- Integrate Servers into a MS SCOM infrastructure for proper monitoring and alerting
- Fine-tune server build templates to align with security and compliance requirements (ie patch and configuration hardening
- Improve server build and management process and procedures
- Improve server decommissioning process and procedures
- Label Servers and functions within vCenter
- Server diagrams and documents
- Build and manage server life cycle process
- Create and manage change requests

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or 7+ years minimum of equivalent experience. 
- Experiencing in consolidating and migrating Legacy applications into a virtual environment
- Experiencing in data center/server consolidation efforts in a highly-available environment
- Experience with Active Directory
- MS Windows Server 2000, 2003, 2008/2008r2, 2012
- Experience performing P2V migrations with VMWare 5.0 or later
- Experience with VMWare 5.0/vCenter
- Experience with Microsoft SQL 2008r2 and 2012 and clustering technologies
- Experience with MS Office applications (Excel, Word and Visio)
- Knowledge of HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP, SMTP, DNS, SSH, TELNET, SMNP, FTP
- Working knowledge of enterprise storage.
