SENIOR TECHNICIAN

£172.17 - £215.21 PER DAY LTD

FULL TIME 35 HOURS PER WEEK

TEMPORARY CONTRACT UNTIL 31ST MAY 2013

We require a qualified and an enthusiastic Senior Technician with substantial experience in highways, traffic management design, management and implementation of large public realm schemes covering traffic management, parking management and Cycling schemes. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will need to work on own initiative to deliver major capital programme, enabling delivery of project within time and budget maximising value for money. You will need design experience and implementation using various forms of contacts. An experience of procurement of output based and NEC 3 contracts will be advantageous.

You will also need to have excellent communication skills and IT literacy, skills.

To work within the assigned team of the Highways and Traffic Management Services Group, assisting the Team Leaders and Engineers in varied projects and undertake investigations, design and implementation in accordance with legislative requirements and council priorities all within agreed budgets in the following areas:- a) Public Rights of Ways and Highways Record Services
b) Traffic Regulations/Events/consultation/Insurance claims
c) Traffic Management, AIP and Parking Management Schemes.

- Undertake supervision of junior staff members including appraisals and necessary support for day to day working and development of individuals.
- Assist in the design of major schemes and produce design briefs for schemes undertaking accident analysis and using various IT packages (eg AutoCad Map, Keylines, AutoTrack, Key Accident, UKP Viewer), reference to specialised literature, surveying equipment
- Assist in Preparing projects for implementation, design standard details where necessary, and liaise with internal and external parties during the progression of the accepted schemes. Assist in progressing them through to committee
- Undertake surveys, Land and Speed using the appropriate equipment(total Station etc)
- Prepare committee reports, attend meetings with ward councillors and other internal and external bodies
- To ensure that all design works and contractors comply with CDM 2007 regulations. Audit and Health and Safety guidelines for the safety of site staff, public and drivers. Ensuring that the site is correctly signed in accordance with Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual
- Write and assist in the preparation of departmental policies and Procedures for the relevant area
- Support Engineers and team leader in effective management of projects including budget monitoring process and control
