RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide structural packaging recommendations

Contribute to or drive special projects as needed

Member of the Spec governance team

In concert with the Spec governance team

Member of the Environmental team

Revising how we do Pallet assembly documentation.

Meet with Configuration management around a strategy of creating a laundry list of generic components, which they happily embraced.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

Ability to visualize concepts in 3D

Algebra/geometry (this is a basic that any engineer should be able to do)

Understanding of packaging materials and their properties (corrugated, paperboard, rigid boxes, bagasse/molded pulp, plastic sheeting, bags, thermoformed PET)

Understanding of manufacturing processes, packaging manufacturing processes a plus

Full packaged product assembly is hand assembled using high volume, JIT assembly line concepts

Create assembly instructions; identify and incorporate critical to quality features

Knowledge of bar code technology and requirements for various code types

Component manufacturing is typically automated: paper products (corrugated components and retail cartons are die cut as are plastic sheeting and labels) pulp trays are molded; plastic trays are thermoformed

Understanding of configuration management principles/Bill of Materials

Understanding of logistics principles use of TOPS software to determine optimum load, considering regional requirements, product size, weight & fragility, load stability

Knowledge of packaging compliance markings

Attention to detail

SOFTWARE:

Working knowledge of AutoCAD

3D like SolidWorks helpful but not required

Adobe Illustrator helpful but not required

TOPS or CAPE logistics software

Office suite

In house configuration management tools
