Senior R&D Scientist

Real Staffing Group is urgently looking for a Senior Research and Development Scientist II for a well known medical device company in the Pleasanton area.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position requires excellent communication skills, method development and implementation involving deep understanding of hydrogel material properties and hydrogel surface chemistry. This will apply to both future/experimental materials and current products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Develop new test methods independently with minimum supervision.
* Evaluate testing procedures currently being used on a routine basis and identify needs and strategies for improvement.
* Generate methods and conduct testing at our in-house analytical equipments or through external contractors.
* Analyze scientific data, write SOP's and technical reports, present and deliver analytical results within deadlines.
* Contribute to new product development and draft quality documentation.
* Work in a cross-functional team environment involving R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Clinical and Marketing for multiple projects/programs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

* Knowledge in polymer and material characterization.
* Skills of using bulk and surface techniques, such as CONFOCAL MICROSCOPY, MECHANICAL TESTING, RHEAOLOGY, CONTACT ANGLE, AFM, SEM, XPS, TOF-SIMS, FLUORESCENT TECHNIQUES, MOLECULAR WEIGHT DETERMINATION, LUBRICITY, etc.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to work in a team environment and conduct multiple tasks based on priority.
* Ability to present efficiently using Excel and PowerPoint, read and write highly technical materials.

EDUCATION:

* Ph. D. in Polymer Science, Material Science, Chemistry or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

At least 2 years of industry experience in Contact Lens and/or other medical device industry with demonstrated ability to develop successful solutions in related areas. It is also highly desired to have wet chemistry experience.

SALARY:

$80K to $100K depending on experience
