SENIOR OPS ENGINEER LINUX TOMCAT

For one of my globally leading financials clients we are looking for a Fluent Dutch speaking Senior Ops Engineer with Linux and Tomcat expertise.

As a Senior Ops Engineer (Linux Tomcat) you will have a passion for IT Infrastructure, be a team player working as a core member of a Infra team with end-to-end responsibility for Linux and Tomcat instances. As Infra team member you are responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Linux and Tomcat instances of your team. You identify and analyse problems and you take the lead in solving incidents in closed collaborating with the application DevOps teams.

ESSENTIALLY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

Administer and maintain Linux and Tomcat instances together with your squad.
Move all typical user stories and tasks from "To-Do" to "Done". Especially you focus on:
1. Maintain infrastructure instances
a. Maintain infrastructure instances (resilient, high quality, highly automated and up-to-date)
b. Solve Incidents and problems, execute changes on Linux and Tomcat instances
c. Support and educate application DevOps squads on maintaining and updating the infrastructure instances
2. Apply and improve DevOps way of working
a. Implement user stories from backlog as agreed with the Product Owner
b. Continuously improve yourself, your squad and the service
i. Conduct root cause analysis to identify service improvements
ii. Actively ask for feedback and coaching for improvement
iii. Provide feedback to squad members to avoid waste
c. Collaborate within and across squads to understand your services end-to-end

You will have an extensive understanding of the full stack, tooling ecosystem, and consumer requirements. With your expertise you can contribute to the team's mission of maintaining Linux and Tomcat instances and transferring second line operations knowledge and responsibility's to the application DevOps squads.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

1. Broad understanding of technologies and consumer needs
a. Knowledge across stack, technologies and ecosystems
i. Technology stack and tools of the respective service of the squad
ii. Technology of interfacing squads and consumers to achieve end-to-end view
iii. Impact of different factors on performance and capacity of services
iv. Technical implications of Security and Risk principles
b. Clear understanding of consumer context and needs, as well as the value-add of your service to the consumer
2. Expertise in support, development and using automation tooling for Linux
a. Extensive background in enterprise level operational Linux support
b. Scripting experience in at least one of the following: Ruby, Python, Bash, Groovy
c. Experience with virtualization environments and tools eg, VMware, Cloud Forms, Virtual Box, KVM
d. Knowledge of tools like Puppet, Chef or Ansible, Nolio
e. Extensive RHEL knowledge (6 & 7)
f. Extensive Tomcat knowledge

i. Working knowledge of RH Satellite
3. Working-level knowledge of Agile and DevOps practices
a. Understanding of the Scrum methodology (eg backlog and spring planning, review and marketplace)
b. Knowledge of Lean practices (eg, waste identification, visual management)
c. Knowledge of DevOps way of working (eg continuous delivery, cross-functional team set-ups, development of cross-skilled squad members)

YOUR EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND:

a. Professional and intellectual IT ability at university level - at least Bachelor's degree
b. Experience from working in high performing Agile IT teams
c. Track record of successfully operating, maintaining Linux and Tomcat instances
d. Certifications and/or proven proficiency in supporting Linux and Tomcat
e. Excellent command of spoken and written Dutch

LOCATION: Amsterdam
CONTRACT: 12months +
