SR. MAINFRAME SUPPORT ADMINISTRATOR

Columbia, SC

1 YEAR+ CONTRACT

CANDIDATE TECHNICAL BACKGROUND:

- Technical experience with systems analysis, design, and/or programming experience or other job related IT experience (4 years, Required)
- Candidate must have strong working knowledge of Batch Processing --- specifically proper use and structure of Job Control Language (JCL) in an IBM Mainframe environment (Required)
- Any experience with CICS or non-host development and/or support would be considered a plus (Highly Desired)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Primary responsibility is to provide on-site support for our Production and Test Batch Cycles. This includes monitoring jobs, resolving abends, engaging application on-call staff when necessary, communication of status to management, and escalating as necessary to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- There are also additional responsibilities related to triage of non-host issues and production validation checks to ensure high profile applications are functional and available for customer use.

PRIMARY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

- Will primarily be working with other technical staff within the Systems Support team or within the Application Development teams.
- There will be interaction with management and Sr. Management as needed to escalate issues and report on status of daily cycles.

WORKING HOURS/CONDITIONS: This is a 4 days-on/4 days-off shift position that works 10-hour shifts. The hours are from 11:00 P.M. until 9:00 A.M. The 4 days-on/4 days-off schedule means that you will be required to work weekends and holidays if they fall on your scheduled shift.

TEAM SIZE: There are 12 People on the entire team. However, this individual will typically work with a team of 3-4 people on a daily basis.

DESCRIPTION:

- (25%) Perform/Support installation, configuration, administration, implementation, scheduling and/or tuning/modification of applications. Provide support for moderate to complex system/production performance concerns. Collaborate with various internal groups and external vendors to ensure all specifications are met and problems are resolved as they arise.
- (25%) Assist in analysis of problems/issues. Perform corrective actions whenever possible to fix applications that end abnormally and/or notify technical support for resolution. Communicate with applications on-call persons to repair applications that ended abnormally. Consult with senior level peers on projects of greater complexity.
- (15%) Evaluate system performance in Real Time as well as via reports for release related issues. Monitor and report on scheduled batch and online applications for successful/unsuccessful execution. Review all abnormal results/issues to production processing from previous cycles and verify that they have been logged/resolved. May run necessary system backups.
- (15%) Verify Production and Test environments are up and functioning properly. Perform testing responsibilities as need. Review and/or create documentation for accuracy, future problems, and company standards.
- (15%) Participate in work sessions and walkthroughs for quality and production implementations, releases, data conversion projects and/or disaster recovery exercises. Attend implementation meetings to determine impact to system availability and assignment of team resources for these implementations.
- (5%) Look for improvement opportunities in the cycles and in procedures. May create new programs to automate the release process where possible. Assist and provide recommendations in applications enhancement projects."

EDUCATION/EQUIVALENCY: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IS, or job related degree or 4 years of combined related education and related work experience or a total of 8 years of related work experience
