Senior Database Engineer / Consultant

Function Description

This person is seen as a go-to person by the business. He/she takes the extra mile to ensure our vendors provide the service they are expected to bring on Data structure level (DB / DataMarts / Big Data..)

Primary Tasks and responsibilities

- Advise & consultancy on broad ICT Database Infrastructure technologies
- Experience in Data Types and data modelling
- Design and architectural insight skills in modern database structures
- Follow up on emerging new technologies a evaluate their sense for the company
- Ability to read DB layouts, their configuration setup & advise on improvements
- Work out Business Continuity plans for ICT Infrastructure
- Project related site deployment and integration
- Integrate solutions together with application teams,
- Prepare, analyze (offers), follow-up on orders, guide implementation
- Liaison role between our affiliates and world-wide support partner
- Make, update, verify on existing technical documentation. Report & present solutions
- Make, update & ameliorate standard procedures & statements of work
- Guard, enforce & report on standard procedures
- 3rd Line support (troubleshooting, incident management, debugging)
- Screening of operating companies for possible consolidations
- Adhere to ITIL based processes and work within highly regulated environment.
- Act as high level support for our engineers and off-shore staff, tackle level 3 issues.
- Performance monitoring & tuning on Database structures & their reporting
- Disaster recovery design & support activities Skills & Competences

- Some flexibility in working hours is required (occasional over-time or weekend/holiday work)

- Strong tracking, coordination and project planning skills
- Proactive approach, bring ideas to the table, concerns, issues
- Ability to identify and implement process and/or application improvements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to work on multiple simultaneous tasks with limited supervision
- Quick learner, motivated self-starter
- Ability to coach and train younger ICT professionals
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, communication and team collaboration skills
- Able to follow change management procedures and internal guidelines
- On-call permanency is possible

Methodology/Certification requirements

- Bachelor Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science OR equivalent through experience.
- Advanced course work in technical systems plus continued education in technical disciplines is preferred

Language proficiencies

- English spoken and written
- Dutch is a plus

Safir Consulting is offering a freelance contract during 6 months, startdate is foreseen end of August till April 2016 (+- 6 months).
Extensions will follow after a positive evaluation 1 month before the end of the contract.
