Description

OVERVIEW:

The Business Applications team ensures that the supply of Information Management (IM) and Technology (IT) services matches the demand from the business while balancing the flexibility benefits of local solutions with the efficiency and cost benefits of an enterprise-wide overview of IM/IT application architecture.

THIS IS ACHIEVED BY:

(i) e nsuring stability and maintainability of day-to-day business operations enabled by its portfolio of applications under the team's management ;

(ii) a dopting a business benefit perspective to IM/IT investments, project management and performance measurement;

(iii) p romoting the emergence of a bank-wide framework for managing IT applications and increasing the value generated by IM/IT investments in applications ; and

(iv) d developing the business and technical expertise of IT staff.

The team has the following sub-units: Architecture and Quality Assurance; Collaboration; PeopleSoft; Data and Analytics; and Database Management Services.

Your primary role as a senior system analyst in Database Management services is to (i) contribute to the design, implementation, maintenance and product management of the corporate database infrastructure; (ii) manage projects to enhance the provision of data management services in line with business objectives; and (iii) streamline database administration in partnership with external suppliers.

The role requires work outside normal working hours during service windows and the provision of overnight/weekend on-call support (on a rotation basis within the team).

Less technically strong candidates (with limited experience as a database administrator) but with strong experience in data governance, data security and management of outsourced database operations will also be considered for this role.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Ensure the product management (maintenance, support, enhancement, license management, supplier management, patching, operations) of the corporate database infrastructure (Oracle, SQL Server and Sybase IQ).
- Contribute to business IM/IT projects with database and data management-related activities (design, implementation, quality assurance, operational arrangements).
- Develop the provision of performance and monitoring services to business areas.
- Reduce total cost of ownership of database services by streamlining, standardising and partially outsourcing the management of database operations.
- Contribute to the development of enhanced security models for data management.
- Develop data encryption related services in close collaboration with business areas and IT developers.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

- At least five years of experience as a database administrator with client-facing responsibilities.
- A strong asset is previous experience in developing/managing outsourcing arrangements for database management-related operations.
- An additional strong asset is previous experience in defining and implementing data governance programs including segmentation of access rights.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

- Master's degree or equivalent experience in a related subject.
- Ideally, a professional DBA certification from either Oracle or Microsoft.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Strong understanding of Oracle and Microsoft database management technologies, including security concepts (encryption, role-based security).
- Good understanding of data management related technologies and concepts (eg ETL, MDM, data governance, BI).
- Ability to design and implement performance monitoring services and reports tailored to business needs.
- Previous experience of the management and storage of time-series information is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills, pragmatic problem-solver, quick learner.
- Demonstrated ability to work in small or medium-sized teams and foster cooperation across units and teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and take ownership in achieving assigned objectives.
- Fluency in English, any other additional language is a plus.
