Senior Control Design Engineer (NSN One-NDS)

JOB DESCRIPTION SR. CONTROL DESIGN ENGINEER (NSN ONE-NDS)

Focus area for the design engineer will be the CS-core domain (MSS/MGW & HLR). Candidates with knowledge of the NSN One-NDS solution are preferred. Understanding of basic call routing is required and the candidate must be able to describe and document the different mobile call flows, including number portability solutions. A solid background in (at least one protocol) SS7, SIP, LDAP and diameter signalling is a must.

Signaling: Tekelec STP (diameter Router RFQ ongoing)

- The Control Network Design Engineer is responsible for all detail design, data fill and RFC aspects of the Control Equipment including
- Circuit Switched core elements (eg MSS, MGW, etc ),
- Packet Switched core elements (eg SGSN, GGSN, etc ),
- Aggregation network elements (eg RNC, BSC, etc ) and
- Generic and Control elements (eg HLR, STP, IMS, etc )
- The Control Design Engineer will translate the solution (HLD) as defined by the Control Solution Engineer into a technical design (LLD) and will create the related RFCs for implementation. She/he will pro-actively re-evaluate existing Low Level Designs and strive for simplification and Automation
- Stay updated with the equipment vendor's HW roadmaps and changes to the existing features and functionalities
- Maintain the relevant department documentation, low level designs and data builds for the production environment and reference lab in line with the reality by following-up the feedback from the users.
- Provide 3rd line support to the Service operations department during realization phase of a project for that specific project.
- Provide 2nd line and 3rd line support (HW & SW) for the control network elements in the reference lab.
- The Sr. Control Design Engineer will keep the Service Operations department and Network deployment department informed on the expected output of the team, for the purpose of aligning the demand with implementation capabilities.

KEY RESULTS/OUTPUT OF POSITION

- Creates a technical design (LLD) for the control network elements, for the assigned projects that have passed the required tollgates.
- Updates the control network data build documentation and keeps the overall low level design and network topology documentation up to date.
- Will translate requested small changes to existing solutions/designs into changes in the existing LLD and Data build.
- Creates RFCs for design changes that need to be implemented in the reference lab and production network.
- Keeps the reference LLD and Data build updated in order for the control network elements of the reference lab to be a representation of the production environment.
- Keeps informed about the developments (HW) of the control network elements
- Checks RFC created by colleagues and Jr. Control Design Engineers before they are send for implementation

EXPERTISE

- Detailed knowledge of STP network elements and monitoring equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of packet switched core network elements in mobile networks (example SGSN, GGSN)
- Detailed knowledge of control network elements in mobile networks (Example IMS, HSS)
- Detailed knowledge of circuit switched core network elements in mobile networks (Example MSS, MGW, HLR)
- Detailed knowledge of Radio Access controller elements (Example BSC, RNC)
- Processes and tooling involved in the planning and operation of mobile networks
- English: Good verbal and excellent written communication
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural working environment with highly qualified and demanding colleagues
