Science Computing Support Specialist Job

SCIENCE COMPUTING SUPPORT SPECIALIST needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in Boulder, CO.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- Help to administer and maintain the network storage and processing infrastructure for the Science Teams under the framework established by CI.
- Support formulation of plans for a Science Operations Management (SOM) system, designed to facilitate access to and review, evaluation and manipulation of observatory data.
- Support implementation of mathematical models and algorithms via prototype code, making recommendations for the most efficient approach to producing complex ecological models.
- Research and evaluate commercial and open source computing tools and applications
- Advise science staff on a variety of hardware and software computing requirements and solutions.
- Provide and/or coordinate Scripting support to science teams for management of data storage and facilitating automated processing of data products
- Other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Computer Science or similar technical discipline with specific experience in scientific computing.
- Five years' experience working with scientists and/or engineers in planning data storage, data processing and software development on a multiplatform environment .
- Three years of experience communicating computing needs between scientists, engineers, and programmers.
- Experience administering various operating systems, including Linux, Mac OSX and Windows Sever 2008, 2012.
- Experience with Network Information Services under Linux, and synchronizing with Active Directory.
- Working knowledge network storage solutions such as CIFS, and NFS in a mixed platform environment of Windows Server and Linux Operating systems.
- Scripting experience either in python, ruby, or Perl for management of data storage.

BONUS POINTS! OTHERWISE KNOWN AS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master's Degree in Science, Computer Science or similar technical discipline with specific experience in scientific computing.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

- The incumbent serves as a liaison between the Science Teams (SCI) and the Cyber-Infrastructure (CI) team to continue building collaborative work efforts between teams; work with SCI and CI staff to formulate efficient/optimal, long term solutions to scientific computing and system administration challenges.
