The main duty of this post is to develop the understanding of MOD networked systems and processes from a Cyber domain.

This will include:
- categorising data and information from cyber networks, providing advice on analysing structured and unstructured data and fusion of information across multiple domains to ensure high levels of trust and understanding within multiple enterprise networks.
- this post requires the identification of links between low level data and high level processes and as such the reliance on multiple sub systems to perform MOD enterprise activities.
- Researching, evaluating and detailing how different sources of information impact collective knowledge about systems are core to this post.
- Responsibility will cover collating currently known network information and evaluating current and potential sources of information.
- The successful candidate will need exposure to previous defence systems project including defence projects life cycle and the current methodologies to understand Cyber Security Risks.

The responsibilities of this position requires expert and/or applied knowledge in the field of understanding network and communication systems and how best to identify and process normal and abnormal levels of activity. The contractor would ideally be able to communicate the advantages and disadvantages of using access to different data sources and potential sensors to provide better situational awareness. As the topic of information and data is cross cutting to a number of other areas within Cyber Situational Awareness, the successful applicant will have the opportunities to work on similar projects. Therefore the work undertaken here has impact across multiple projects. Novel algorithm development and testing is required and therefore agile software development methodology knowledge is required. This is to allow for an applied approach to developing tools and techniques to test and evaluate untested methods of cyber analysis.

Skills required:

- Experience of using network activity to understand pattern of life, mining multiple data sources and network security (including both high and low level systems) are core skills to this post.
- The challenges undertaken will involve understanding underlying data, trends and aggregating information to understand and report on the art of the possible with current data (to set current requirements) and future capability if missing information was sourced (to drive future requirements).
- An applied knowledge of information fusion and information management is desirable to enable the decisions on which data sources to use and how best to apply them and which levels to integrate into a Cyber Situational Awareness project.
- The experience required will be in processing large volumes of complex data and Big Data.
- A high level of understanding of systems concepts, information theory and a good understanding of the steps required to deliver S&T from development to exploitation.
- The outputs from this post will integrate into a report on different sources of data and the usefulness of the improved knowledge of activity on MOD Cyber systems.
- A candidate should be able to apply systematic analysis and architectural approaches to a range of technical concepts and technology areas.
