Ruby on Rails Developer - UX/UI - Big Data - Sydney - 6M Con

The Company
Our client is a large, leading Financial Services Organization that has expanded its operations beyond the Australian shores. The organization has a large range of financial offerings to both public and private clients across the retail, corporate and institutional banking areas. They have a very large technical footprint that combine a dynamic range of technologies in an ultimate complex landscape. They're a market-driver in the online and mobile space. Due to their incredible growth, this organization has started multiple projects across the business to overhaul their analytics systems. As a result, there is a need for a strong Ruby on Rails developer.

The Team
This role sits within the Tools and Strategy team, a newly formed group of professionals tasked with delivering critical pieces of the new analytics functionality. Leveraging on technologies such as Hadoop, R, Hbase, NoSQL databases and MapReduce, this team will transform the way this entire organization stores, analyzes, and visualizes information - embracing Big Data.

The Role
The successful candidate will be tasked with developing the UI, reporting/visualization component of the new analytics platform in Ruby using the Rails Framework. Ideally, they will also have experience working in the big data space - experience with Hadoop and/or Hbase would be extremely advantageous.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:

- Demonstrated experience with Ruby on Rails
- Demonstrated experience with UX/UI Design
- Experience with data analytics and visualization
- Good understanding of Object Oriented Programming and Design
- Previous experience with working with databases and/or big data platforms and tools would be ideal.
- Hbase experience is desirable but not required.
- Hadoop experience is desirable but not required.
- Excellent communication skills and complex problem-solving required.
