The Risk and Controls Officer

The primary responsibility of the Risk and Controls Officer is to ensure that the organisation is kept up to date on risk and audit issues. This role works closely with the Audit Committee, the internal and external auditors and the Leadership Team to ensure audits are planned and scoped appropriately and that recommendations from audits are implemented.

The Risk and Controls Officer will promote the maintenance of an effective control framework that underpins the achievement of objectives, delivery of service improvement and sound governance arrangements across all areas of the business. The postholder will be responsible for protecting the association against failure of internal controls wich could expose the Association to significant financial losses, intervention by the Regulator and irreparable reputational damage.

The Risk and Controls Officer holds the relationship with the Internal Audit partners on a day to day basis and will be responsible for gathering information from various members of staff at all levels of the organisation. It is important that the role holder is able to build a good working relationship with colleagues in order to gain the information required, negotiate timescales and when necessary ensure that timelines are adhered to.

The Business Support Team provides executive support to the Chief Executive and Executive Team to ensure the strategic objectives of the Association are met and agreed timelines are achieved. For this role, this relates to the Audit Committee and Major Project Review Group and includes keeping the risk registers up to date, maintaining records of and progress chasing audit recommendations, writing reports, drafting agendas, arranging meetings, collating papers for committee meetings, minute taking and distribution.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS
*To work effectively with the Leadership Team to ensure the implementation of the internal audit plan, acting as a conduit between Wandle and the internal auditors, and ensuring that the Association implements their recommendations.
*Work closely with the Chair of the Audit Committee and Director of Business Partnerships to ensure there is a robust audit work plan for the Association and work proactively with the Leadership Team to ensure effective controls are in place to minimise risks to the Association and to manage risk through the effective operation of the corporate Risk Register.
*To work with the Chair of the Audit Committee to ensure that they are kept up to date with relevant information and information is disseminated accurately to other members of the Audit Committee and the Leadership Team as appropriate.
*Ensure the Association maintains an up to date audit evidence folder with details of how recommendations have been implemented and have oversight of the Association's corporate and departmental risk maps, ensuring these are updated on a regular basis.
*To work closely with the Leadership team to maintain a workplan for the Major Projects Review Group and to manage that series of meetings including production of agendas and reports, assessing the risk profile of reports, attending and minuting the meetings and following up on actions arising.
*To work cohesively within the Business Support Team to ensure provision of a proactive, high performance service that is second to none, ensuring professionalism of delivery.
*Undertake research as required for the Board and Executive Team, produce high quality reports, performance data, presentations, minutes and other documentation as required.
*Assist the Head of Strategy and Governance in ensuring the Association meets its requirements in relation to Company Secretarial activities including maintaining records and making returns. This will include Audit committee and MPRG minutes, fraud register, hospitability register, schedule 1 register, use of the seal, FSA returns etc.
*Keep abreast of internal and external developments relevant to the Association ensuring that the Business Support function is able to preempt requirements and proactively manage the services provided.
