This Bristol based 12 month fixed term contract is an opportunity for a project manager to join a significant defence project involving the provision of 2 new Queen Elizabeth class Aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy. Based in Bristol with some expectation of travel to customer sites this role is responsible to and supporting of the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Power & Propulsion (P&P) Control Account Manager (CAM) in the management of the suppliers (Sub-Alliance Partners) of two software
development intensive contracts, namely: the Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) and the Electric Power Control and Management System (EPCAMS).

You will work with the Sub-Alliance Partners to ensure the successful delivery of the Control Account scope of work to cost and schedule - and technical specification as controlled by the relevant Delegated Design Authorities (DDAs).

Sub-Alliance Partners (Suppliers)

Other Aircraft Carrier Alliance companies in relation to ship build/commissioning and associated with other systems related to the IPMS and EPCAMS scope of supply.

Close collaboration with other P & P CAMs, the P & P Integration Manager and the P & P DDA community.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Support the CAM in the creation of a focussed Control Account team to:

Deliver Sub-contracted multi-sourced and interdependent control software with multiple dependencies and phased implementation

Ensure that the Sub-Alliance Partners fulfil their responsibilities in the creation of integrated deliverables as part of the overall P&P system

Ensure that the embodiment of change is managed in a controlled manner with the Sub-Alliance Partners

Apply appropriate management of risk associated with the Sub-Alliance partners scope of work including the identification and control of mitigation actions

Key performance Indicators against Responsibilities and Tasks:

- Gained a good understanding of the complex priorities with the IPMS SW Development Programme - and be offering insightful options on issues
- Demonstrating a good level of control on delegated tasks/role attributes
- Good knowledge of the Power & Propulsion Sub-Alliance Contracting arrangements (SAMA)
- Strong understanding and evidence of co-ordination and pro-active management of issues/actions with Risk Management/Transverse Engineering Carrier Teams

Skills/Experience

Demonstrated understanding/experience of third party software development in a large and technically complex project environment and the control and delivery thereof

Demonstrated understanding/experience of Project Management principles and process, especially as applied to the management of suppliers and in particular risk and opportunity management.

Positive people management skills - communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict management, negotiation, personnel management

Able to operate effectively under stretching project constraints, pressure and able to display sound judgment at all times

Proficient in MS Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project)

Ability of produce accurate and succinct management reports

Broad Commercial and financial awareness

Qualifications:

Desirable

Ideally hold a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a technical or business subject

Professional Programme Management qualification/certification (ie APM/IPMA) is preferred
