Project Engineer - Transport Modeller

I am looking to hire a PROJECT ENGINEER - TRANSPORT MODELER for one of my Public Sector Client. Please read the below job Specification.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Degree in mathematics, engineering, economics or other numerate subject.
This person will be a Transport Modeler. They build mathematical models within a computer system to replicate how a transport system would work in real life. They can then add/update functions to this to see what effects it would have before it is done in real life.

KEY TASKS AND DELIVERABLE:

The tasks and deliverable will depend on our business needs at the time; however the role is likely to deliver:

A new tested and Quality Assured version of the NTM model components operating on an upgraded version of the Department's IT systems (Windows Server 2008).

This task may also involve the detection, correction and documentation of any problems with programs and macros across a variety of computer languages including Access databases, Visual Basic, FORTRAN, Pascal and Mapinfo.

Managing or assisting with a project to perform the re-calibration of the main NTM multi-modal demand model to ensure that it is compatible with the most recent analysis of Trip Rates.

The up-dating of models or components to enable the use of most recent data.

Topics/Models here may involve new Van forecasts, the incorporation of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEV)s and new oxides of nitrogen (NOx) speed/emission curves.

There may be some flexibility in exactly what is covered by this role depending on the skills of the candidate.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

This is a very technical, hand on role and they expect the candidates to have the following

- Experience of developing and applying mathematical models in a transport context, including in particular variable demand modelling.
- Knowledge of Access, and experience of using it in the transport planning context is required, as is knowledge of MapInfo and experience of using it or a similar GIS package.
- Knowledge of either Visual Basic, FORTRAN or Pascal is required, but we do not expect that candidates will have in-depth knowledge of all three languages.
