EXCLUSIVE OPPORTUNITY:

This assignment will be working with one of Steria's most prestigious Central Government Clients. You will work through Steria Recruitment for Steria, the UK's leading Outsourcing and Technology Company.

The Programming Software Development and Support Officer will provide applications systems maintenance and support services in Visual Basic and SQL.

Making system modifications, adding new features from agreed specifications, developing workarounds or site-specific enhancements, manipulating data, reconfiguring systems, changing or improving operating procedures and training customers or operations staff.

Tasked with investigating problems and other requests for development and support determining appropriate actions to take, ensuring all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods and procedures.

Experience required
Holding relevant technical qualifications and experience, however most important is fluency in Visual Basic 6 and SQL (and possibly Blaise and Manipula).
Hands on experience of the complete applications system life cycle and good writing skills are essential, as is strong problem-solving and confident, all round communication skills.   

Essential/Desirable skills and experience  [Essential - E or Desirable - D]

2 A Levels or equivalent - D
Proven capability in analysis/programming in a relevant environment with programming languages to be specified in advertisement - E
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain focus on agreed objectives and deliverables - E
Ability to work as part of a team and with key customers - E
Good written and spoken communication skills for customer liaison and team working - E
Hands-on experience of all parts of the applications systems life cycle - D
Database management and data retrieval - D
This job involves some travel within the UK and between sites and occasional overnight stays - E
