Great opportunity in Medical Device Manufacturing! I have a client who is a well-established in the government sector; the company is a privately held organization. With deep military roots and pro-employee culture, this organization offers a tremendous opportunity for a strong Mechanical Designer. This is a junior level position; we're only seeking candidates that possess between 1 - 3 years of experience only.
Our client is located in Harrisburg, NC. The company is expanding and possesses a great reputation within the medical devices industry. The position is a salaried full-time role.

Summary:
Under the guidance of the Product Development Engineering Manager, the Product Design Engineer is responsible for design, documentation, and testing of new medical products for the tactical medical industry. Take principals of design from concept to production following the company's established product development process. Performs product and component testing and analysis and maintains development history records. Is a functional member of the R&D team, participates in design review meetings. Evaluates product designs, implements product performance improvements and ensures products meet specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
• Develops mechanical designs for products
• Creates 3-D drawings from initial rough concept sketches
• Demonstrates sound judgment to develop designs that satisfy the customer's needs and represent the best balance of cost, produce ability, form, fit, function, appearance and quality
• Prepares product drawings, drawing release packages, manufacturing tolerances and maintains drawing revisions and documentation per Quality System regulations
• Adheres to established product development process
• Adapts or makes changes in methods, processes, design or products when necessary
• Creates functional prototypes and supports making samples for tradeshows.
• Performs laboratory and field testing and evaluation of mechanical designs for tactical medical products to assure compliance with performance specifications
• Creates assembly instructions and bill of materials for new products using technical writing skills and CAD skills
• Researches product materials, ASTM and other applicable standards for compliance
• Applies material science concepts to evaluate material failure or predict potential failure modes
• Individual works with other departments on R&D projects including Marketing, Operations and Quality Assurance to prepare and maintain specifications for products, which include manufacturing, assembly and inspection
• Supports manufacturing by creating fixtures and developing work station layouts
• Participates in product development discussions with internal team and customers including medics and physicians to gain knowledge of the application of the current devices and possible future devices
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• The Preferred candidate will have a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical or related engineering degree
• Proficient in Solidworks solid modeling with 1-2 years of mechanical design or related work experience
• Possesses a strong interest in new product development activities and efficiency programs for accelerating speed to market.
• Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings including tolerances as well as free-hand, conceptual sketches or renderings.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, preferably metal machining, injection molded parts and composites.
• Good written and verbal communication and presentations skills as demonstrated by success in prior position(s) using Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Ability to interface well with all departments within the company in a highly professional, confident and poised manner.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally both internally and with customers.
• Demonstrated ability to work creatively and independently and prioritize effectively to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
• Ability to meet designated deadlines is also a critical qualification.
