Principal Mechanical/Marine Design Engineer

PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL/MARINE DESIGN ENGINEER - DESIGN, BUILD, INTEGRATION.

A Principal Mechanical/Marine Design Engineer with design, build and intergration experience is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Portsmouth.

This is a 6 month contract with a leading UK defence company.

OVERVIEW OF THE PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL/MARINE DESIGN ENGINEER CONTRACT ROLE

The Principal Mechanical/Marine Design Engineer is a key role in the T45 Power Improvement Project Engineering team responsible for providing mechanical capability to support the upgrade of the Power & Propulsion systems.

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL/MARINE DESIGN ENGINEER

- Experience in the design, build and integration of Mechanical Systems in Naval Ships, with particular focus on the following key areas: Prime movers (Gas Turbines and Diesel Generators) Uptakes & Downtakes Fuel Systems Lub Oil Systems FW/SW cooling systems Compressed air systems Ventilation Systems Fixed firefighting systems
- Able to perform robust engineering analysis and make sound judgements based on experience. Knowledge of warship platform integration and ability to make appropriate trade-off decisions.
- Possess a sound knowledge of Product Safety practices.
- Possess an in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working with Classification Society and Naval Authority requirements. Key Leadership/People Management skills
- Understands the importance of continuous business improvement and strives to identify new ways of working, including opportunities for improving processes, working practices and team efficiency
- Understanding of Matrix management in a complex operational environment Key Interpersonal/Behavioural skills

The role is based in Portsmouth, Hampshire - commutable from Southampton, Cowes, Isle of Wight, Salisbury, Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Guildford, Aldershot, Crawley, Horsham, Brighton, Worthing, Chichester.
