Post-doctoral Fellow- Genetics and Epigenetics of Complex Diseases - Arthritis & Clinical Immunology - (PGaffney)

Discover the Difference

We are seeking a Post-doctoral Fellow to lead investigative studies on the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of autoimmune diseases. The laboratory is currently investigating the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of autoimmune susceptibility genes involved in the ubiquitination pathway including TNFAIP3, TNIP1, UBE2L3 and several others. While the genetic associations in these genes are confirmed, the causal variants that are responsible for SLE susceptibility are unclear. In addition, the regulatory mechanisms that result in disordered expression of these genes in the context of disease are not known. We are therefore seeking a highly talented and motivated individual to join our NIH funded laboratory and to lead investigation into the genomic and epigenomic mechanisms that influence the expression and function of these genes in the context of autoimmunity.

Our laboratory employs a wide variety of analytical techniques in the effort to identify causal variants including high-throughput sequencing of DNA, RNA, methylation and histone marks, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, chromosome conformation capture, ChIP-PCR, mass spectrometry, and genome engineering using site-specific engineered nucleases.

Strong candidates will demonstrate proficiency in creative thinking, designing experiments independently, interpreting assay results, summarizing findings, and assisting with manuscript preparation, grant writing, supervising graduate students and presenting data at national meetings.

Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) ranked 3rd in nation in The Scientist magazine's 2013 listing of Best Places to Work for post-docs.
