Payroll Manager - 12 Month Contract


£22K region

Our clients are one of the largest and most respected Umbrella Companies in the UK, providing payroll services to contractors throughout the UK.

They are looking for an experienced, conscientious Payroll Manager to run and maintain one of the pivotal functions for the business.

Although there is a possibility that the role could lead to a permanent position, please note this is initially a 12 month contract to cover maternity leave.

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing and actively managing the day to day collating and processing of all information necessary to ensure that contractors receive the benefits commensurate with the provision of a first class payroll service.

The ideal candidate will have experience of a high volume payroll function with the ability to streamline existing processes and embrace and implement change. You will be a thorough and conscientious individual who is proactive in understanding any legislation amendments / changes that may affect PAYE processing.


- To actively manage the provision of defined payroll services
- Maintenance of accurate records using SAGE Payroll
- Management of and delegation to other payroll staff
- To be completely conversant with company processes and procedures
- To receive, collate and process employee timesheets in a timely and accurate manner


- Processing salary payments for appropriate timesheets
- Processing payments for approved expenses
- Ensuring accuracy of relevant deductions / additions
- Ensuring the accuracy of wage slips prior to release to clients
- Responding to Account Managers for payroll queries
- Processing payroll records for joiners
- Updating coding notice information
- Updating and documenting timesheet records on our bespoke software to reflect receipt of funds and apply to payroll accordingly
- Ensure that account managers receive relevant feedback with all payroll issues
- Reconciling daily exceptions report(s)
- Liaising with the Operations Manager regarding software updates
- Ensuring observation of minimum wage recovery
- Production of P45s for leavers


- SAGE payroll experience is essential
- SAGE Line 50 experience would be advantageous
- Intermediate MS Excel
