OCULAR INJURY RESEARCH PROJECT at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland

PROJECT # MRICD- The Research Participation Program for the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) provides opportunities to participate in USAMRICD on-going applied research and development projects. USAMRICD is the Department of Defense's lead laboratory for the execution of medical chemical defense research. As a subordinate element of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), the institute conducts research involving the development, testing, and evaluation of medical counter-measures to the effects of various chemical warfare agents. Project areas include chemical, biochemical, pharmacology, molecular biology, neuroscience, toxicology, and immunology.

This appointment includes, but is not limited to, the following:

- Develop models of toxicant ocular injury and in vitro models of toxicant exposure for the identification of therapeutic targets and testing of therapeutic agents
- Develop in vitro models of toxicant exposure for high throughput siRNA screening.
- Small animal handling and surgeries will be performed to dissect ocular tissue, perform chemical exposures to the eye, and evaluate clinical eye injury.
- Utilize laboratory instruments including plate spectrophotometers, Bioplex instrumentation, plate washers, microscopes, slit lamp microscopes, and multi-channel pipettors.
