THE ADULT SOCIAL WORK CAMPAIGN

Essex is at the forefront of change in the way local government delivers services. Our commissioning led operating model is delivering better services to our citizens and ensures we are led by the outcomes that the people of Essex need from us.We are committed to enabling vulnerable people to enjoy a better quality of life, protecting our residents from harm and supporting carers and families.

We are currently in the process of reshaping Adult Operations, the proposed redesign is radical - and won't be without challenges - but we're confident our new structure will deliver a streamlined and professionally qualified function, with a strengthened management structure, aligned with NHS CCG localities and clusters to help drive health and social care integration.

There are 5 main principles that underpin our new approach:

- INVESTMENT IN FRONTLINE TEAMS - WE HAVE:
- Created an additional 317 posts
- Moved centralised functions to the frontline wherever possible
- Increased the number of OTs in our new OT hubs
- Created a new Operational Support and Development Function
- Aligned our teams to CCGs and GP clusters
- STRENGTHENING MANAGEMENT- WE HAVE:
- Increased the number of Operational Team Manager roles in order to reduce current spans of control and allow Team Managers to focus on quality of practice within their teams
- SKILL MIX
- We have reviewed the skill mix in our service and made a commitment to a qualified workforce.
- We have invested heavily in increasing posts to give our teams to time and space to practise great social work

NEW SOCIAL CARE CASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

-
- By next April, our new Social Case Care Management system will enable greater efficiency through reducing the number of systems we use and allow greater face-to-face contact with customers, while our teams can focus on higher quality outcomes for customers
- PERFORMANCE RELATED PAY
- We have modernised our pay arrangements to ensure we have a flexible and competitive way to reward high performers throughout their career with us

CASELOADS/TEAMS

- Making changes within the Adult Operations service means smaller teams, allowing social workers time to focus on complex cases and quality practise. A new case management system will be introduced to give you tools to do the job, allowing you to be truly mobile and for you to enjoy flexible working.
- Investment in the workforce means that Essex are able to offer a better working environment for qualified social workers meaning:
- 72 frontline teams (including 2 x safeguarding teams)
- Smaller teams - team sizes average 10 to 12
- Qualified workforce - with extensive CPD program through the Essex Social Care Academy
- Additional Support with a lower manager to practitioner ratio, better supervision ratios 1:10 -1:12

THE WEST QUADRANT

Harlow is a fantastic location, not only is it easily commutable from North and East London but also borders Hertfordshire. The town centre and many of its neighbourhood shopping facilities have also recently undergone major redevelopment.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Another big development has been the introduction of a new CPD framework and our Essex Social Work Academy which will support our drive to continue improving and sustaining high quality Social Work practice. You will also benefit from free professional registration with the HCPC and free membership for the College of Social Work.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO WORK IN OUR TEAMS

The successful candidate will have a Diploma/Degree in Social Work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent or a Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists or B.Sc.O.T or other professional qualification recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, and full HCPC registration. We offer a wide range of courses to support your learning and development as a qualified Occupational Therapist, Senior Occupational Therapist or Team Manager.
