Network Specialist

Our client a leading Queensland employer requires a Senor Networking specialist to join their team on a contract basis.

This position will work in the Infrastructure Delivery team and will be working as a data network specialist to support operational enhancements and rationalisation of existing network infrastructure, and to deliver new network infrastructure platforms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role has the following responsibilities and duties:

- Plan, design and oversee the implementation of technical solutions.
- Technical implementation, testing and support activities as required.
- Assist with the business impact and transition plans as required.
- Liaise with other project team members as required

The role requires strong skills and experience in the design, documentation and implementation of the following technologies in an enterprise-grade environment:

- Routing and switching for WAN, MAN and LAN networks.
- Wireless LANs and associated access and network security controls.
- Cisco core/data centre networking technologies

In addition, skills and experience in the design, documentation and implementation of any of the following technologies would be highly regarded:

- Network Security and Firewalls
- WAN Optimisation technologies
- Network Quality of Service (QoS)

Experience in any of the following areas would also be beneficial:

- Microsoft (AD, Exchange, SQL, SCOM, SCCM, Server 2003/2008, DPM, FIM)
- VMware
- Citrix
- EMC storage and data protection platforms
- Prince2 and ITIL

DELIVERABLES:

One or more of the tasks described below, or other tasks of similar complexity:

- Data Centre rationalization activities
- Decommission a Legacy core network environment in a data centre - migrate the workload and services running on two 6509 Cisco Switches to an existing new core
- Decommission a Legacy Internet gateway environment in a data centre - assist a team of Windows specialists to migrate network services to an existing new core
- Re-architect a Telstra VPN feed to two data centres to migrate the termination points off old infrastructure and onto existing Routers in a new core
- Perform the network architecture and detailed design duties for infrastructure projects involving Wintel hardware, Cisco networking, VMware virtualization and EMC storage platforms
