Network Operations Engineer

We are seeking an engineer with experience in 24x7 Operations Support to proactively and efficiently monitor and resolve application, system, and network incidents affecting the company platform and ensure maximum availability. The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills, an eye to automate and document routine tasks, and display an ability to spot long-term trends in a production web environment ­to help promote our aggressive global growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Proactively monitor availability and performance of our application stack and infrastructure using key homegrown and commercially available tools.
- Efficiently respond to monitoring alerts, incident tickets, and email/phone/irc requests to NOC operations and triage/escalate issues as needed.
- Adeptly perform application and website troubleshooting to quickly resolve issues per documented procedures.
- Candidly work with SRE and Development teams, as well as coordinate/communicate/manage notifications and updates of issues affecting site availability/performance to customers and executive management
- Effectively ensure smooth and complete hand offs between shifts.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

- Experience working with Unix/Linux(Redhat) and system management tasks.
- Capacious Scripting (anything will work, but we are a Python shop) and automation experience
- Effective team player to be able to work closely with peers and other operations or engineering teams
- Prior experience in a 24 x 7 Operations environment in a large scale multi-billion dollar company.
- Flexible schedule availability to meet the needs of a 24 x 7 Operations environment - weekends may be required
- Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask in an interrupt-driven, Real Time environment
- Superb interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills - both written and verbal
- Identifies and automates repetitious tasks and processes to improve issue resolution time.
- Documents and streamlines existing processes and implements new processes.
- Enhances and/or builds utilities/tools (together with SRE) to increase productivity.

PREFERRED SKILLSET

- Understanding and programming experience in Java/J2EE applications
- Competent understanding of network concepts, IPv6, TCP/IP stack and common Internet protocols
- Display a passion to enhance your current skill set - Willing to become a subject matter expert in key technologies

SCHEDULE:

Candidates must have a flexible work schedule. Candidates will be required to work on the following days and hours:

Shift 1: Sunday - Thursday: 6 AM - 4:30 PM and 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM

Shift 2: Tuesday - Saturday: 6 AM - 4:30 PM and 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM
