Network LAN/WAN Engineer Job

NETWORK SUPPORT ENGINEER needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in Washington, DC.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Monitoring performance and diagnosing problems in all aspects of the network infrastructure (Switches, Routers, bridges, hubs, modems, specialized Servers) so that acceptable levels of performance are maintained at all times.
- Engineering and implementation of network solutions to meet Authorized User-driven engineering requirements in a timely manner.
- Connecting equipment, running tests, configuring equipment, running acceptance tests, and developing procedures are typical duties.
- Updating documentation (drawings, tables, databases, broadcasts to Authorized Users/help desks, and text procedures) of the network in a fashion that is useful for peer and management review, installation work, diagnostic reference by technicians, capacity planning, analysing proposed network development/changes, inventory control, problem tracking, change management control, status reporting, and for disaster recovery archives.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:
- Engineering/Computer related degree and minimum seven (7) years of experience (depending on job classification) working in a LAN/WAN networking infrastructure environment.
- Broad range of technical operations experience with LAN/WAN hardware and software (Switches, hubs, Routers, bridges, modems, multiplexors, data, voice, and video).
- Working knowledge of transmission protocols and techniques (Ethernet, TCP/IP, ISDN, FrameRelay, VSAT/DAMA, TDM/FDM, HDLC, SDLC, H.323, H.320).
- Demonstrated experience supporting engineers, vendors, international carriers, and technicians to install and make operational complex network designs.
- Ability to work with team members with varying levels of technical skills and diverse international backgrounds.
- Must be able to adapt to and function in a project environment with multiple timetables, and changing priorities.
- Good writing and engineering documentation skills.
- Must have good knowledge of Word, Excel, and some CAD related experience.

- Willingness to work shifts and to work nights, weekends, and holidays on occasion so as to minimize the impact of network changes as seen by the Authorized Users.
