Network Engineer

The Network Engineer will document engineering standards and proposals/recommendations for cable plant designs and room layouts, write scope of work documents, and provide other documentation as required.

The Senior Level Infrastructure Cabling Engineer's main focus will be in developing and overseeing the designs of the Senior Engineers for IT Cable Plants/Premise Based Distribution Systems, TER's, TR's, and UPS and DC Backup Power requirements to support the Voice, Data and Video communication needs .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Develop Cable Plant designs for new facilities both inside and outside plant.
- Layout IT rooms in an architectural scaled format.
- Write scope of work documents for projects and all supporting documentation.
- Provide QA/QC of cabling as it is being installed by making regular site visits.
- Ability to size UPS systems to support IT rooms.
- Size and provide required heat load for each IT room.
- Assess the infrastructure and IT rooms existing sites and make recommendations for improvements and changes based on current standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field and/or a minimum of 4 years of equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 8 years of network and/or telecommunications engineering experience.
- A minimum of 6 years of inside and outside cable plant design.
- A minimum of 6 years experience with performing layouts of IT equipment rooms
- Ability to use AutoCad and Visio to produce required documentation.
- Ability to read and work with blueprints.
- Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards as well.
- Familiarity with UPS systems and the interworkings of different types.
- Knowledge different Categories and types of copper cabling.
- Knowledge of different types of fiber cabling and connectors.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Visio, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong technical project management and engineering skills are mandatory.
- Able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and propose effective solutions.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to write detailed, complex documents for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to interface with executives and high-level managers and to provide recommendations and advice on technical issues and strategy.
- Ability to learn independently, research products and technologies, and to problem solve as well as to assume a technical leadership role as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Basic knowledge of different type of network equipment most common used by Cisco.
- Basic knowledge of network topologies.
- Demonstrate technical excellence, including industry related certifications.
- Building Industry Consultant Services International (Bicsi) member.
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD).
- Experience working in and around the healthcare environment.
- Experience with large project rollouts and construction projects.
