NETEZZA DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR NEEDED IN COLUMBIA, MD

Focus is on the proficient delivery of Database Administration services while leading the Database Administration team's use of tools, techniques and processes.

Primary duties are around our Netezza database infrastructure - these may include, but are not limited to the following:

- Works closely with Development, QA, Architects, Business Analysts and other IT staff to implement Database Administration standards, policies, methods, and procedures building consensus with all parties.
- Participates within the DBA team to troubleshoot any issues on the Netezza appliance.
- Recommend and implement a detailed security design based on minimum necessary privileges required.
- Create, test, implement and monitor an automated set of procedures for database and server backups as well as necessary maintenance procedures.
- Work with data modeler and DBA to implement physical model on an ongoing basis.
- Builds and supports required database development and test environments.
- Instrumental in providing guidance in best architectural practices in maximizing the database performance.
- Troubleshoots difficult database problems, including slow running queries.
- Plans, coordinates and implements database change migration.
- Work with appliance vendor to troubleshoot issues, perform upgrades, create and follow-up on support tickets as needed.
- Participate in after-hours on-call duties as requested.
- Secondary duties are related to our SQL server infrastructure - the Database Admin Sr Advisor may be asked to execute these tasks on an as needed basis:
- Backup/restore databases.
- Perform necessary maintenance activities for database infrastructure.
- Coordinate and implement database change migrations.
- Security design and implementation.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION INCLUDE:

- BS/BA in Computer Science or Information Technology.
- Recent 5+ years industry experience as a Netezza DBA.
- Experience with performance troubleshooting with slow running queries.
- Knowledge of industry best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to support production DBA activities on the Netezza platform.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with superior communication skills; verbal, interpersonal and written.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS (GOOD TO HAVE, BUT NOT REQUIRED):

- 2+ years industry experience as a SQL Server DBA.
