Projektbeschreibung

The Information Management (IM) department of the European Patent Office (EPO) has 450 staff working on IT and information processing, with a professional and proactive focus on supporting the EPO's different business processes.

Within IM, Principal Directorate Service Operations (PDSO) is responsible, through the Infrastructure and Operations directorate (I&O), for running the infrastructure supporting the application portfolio offered by IM. PDSO's Infrastructure and Software Engineering directorate (ISE) is in charge of the software component parts of the infrastructure.

The Platforms department within the Infrastructure and Software Engineering directorate is located between the Infrastructure department - storage, operating systems and virtualisation - and the Applications department. It has various teams that manage the EPO's technical, software-based infrastructure components in the following areas: application servers, antivirusdesigning strategy and providing the operational areas with procedures to perform data migration between different database versions
- Provision of support to developers: in co-ordination with technical staff and contractors from PD Service Creation, delivering the necessary guidance to enable the development teams to build operational applications
- System tuning: monitoring MongoDB performance with existing tools, i.e. MongoDB Ops Manager, to proactively prevent any potential SLA infringement and, upon identification of improvement opportunities, suggesting and implementing changes
- ITIL procedures at the EPO: contributing on MongoDB matters to IM's complete set of EPO ITIL procedures for change, incident and problem management
- Housekeeping strategy design: setting up, validating and scheduling housekeeping scripts to reorganise and back up databases; preparing procedures for the operational areas in charge of running applications hosting data on MongoDB databases

Candidates must be prepared to take part in the team's 24/7 on-call rota, and occasionally to work during "off-line" hours, i.e. weekdays after 19.00 hrs or at weekends. These responsibilities will be carried out in line with the mandatory EPO ITIL framework principles on the basis of the staff member's professional criteria. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in an individual development plan and to further develop skills and competencies.

The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of
MongoDB administration (at least three years' experience)

- big data processes in large organisations
- mission-critical data management
- specific MongoDB support tooling, i.e. MongoDB Ops Manager (based on the former MMS)

It will also be an advantage to have

- good knowledge of scripting in a Unix environment
- proven experience with monitoring tools and application-performance testing
- experience in change management processes in a large organisation
- Java DevOps background
- MongoDB professional certifications

Additionally, candidates should have

- experience on DB2 and/or Microsoft SQL Server
- experience with managed service contracts
- the ability, within the ITIL Plan-Build-Run framework, to co-operate within a framework capable of developing from a plan-build scenario into running operational activities
- good communication skills (oral and written)
- the ability to work independently, proactively and co operatively within a team

Minimum qualifications

- Diploma of completed studies at master's level or - in exceptional cases - equivalent professional experience. Excellent knowledge of one official language (English, French or German) and ability to understand the other two.
- Citizenship of one of the member states of the European Patent Organisation.

Salary and benefits

The EPO offers competitive salaries, an excellent social package, and varied work in a modern international environment. The net (basic) monthly salary* for this vacancy ranges from EUR 5 223 to 7 396, depending on experience. In addition, depending on their personal circumstances, EPO staff may be entitled to relocation benefits and various allowances (e.g. household, dependant's, childcare, education, expatriation, installation, rent and language allowance).

Duration of the contract

The contract will be for the duration of 3 years.

Process and timeline

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of qualifications, supplemented as appropriate by interviews, tests and/or a personality questionnaire.

It is intended to hold the interviews on 14 and 15 June 2016 in The Hague.
