Mechanical Design Engineer - FEA - Contract

Mechanical Design Engineer -Gloucester- URGENT CONTRACT This is a position in a mechanical design role. Staff at this level would normally be expected to perform work involving independence in approach, demanding originality, ingenuity and judgement. The individual will make technical decisions and is expected to 'own' all aspects of their design. Responsibilities Your work will involve the planning, design and delivery of complex mechanical handling and weapon launch systems equipment. You may be requested to undertake concept or detailed design dependent upon the maturity of the projects underway. Specific activities in the role include: * Mechanical design at system and sub-system level (including mechanisms & structures) * Integration of hydraulic/pneumatic systems into the overall design * Design & task estimation Knowledge/Experience of the following are also considered integral to the role: * Ability to perform strength calculations for the sizing of equipment * An understanding of what can and can't be practically manufactured * An ability to design for Availability, Reliability & Maintainability * Appreciation of electrical/electronic (and other) control methodologies Qualifications & Requirements You will have: * Either a relevant HNC/HND qualification or first/further degree * Over 5 years design office experience * Recent use of Product Data Management (PDM) & PRO ENGINEER * A broad interest in Engineering Technologies It would be an advantage to have: * Experience working in a Defence or Nuclear environment * Experience working in medium/heavy engineering (ideally mechanical handling) * Practical engineering skills Ideally you will be a member of a relevant institution and hold Chartered or Incorporated status.
