Valeo Sylvania is a leader in the automotive lighting industry and supplies advanced lighting assemblies for forward, rear, signaling, and interior applications to the major automotive manufacturers in the United States. The operation was founded in 1978 and is a joint venture with 50/50 ownership between Valeo and OSRAM Sylvania. Our headquarters, including manufacturing and R&D is located in Seymour, Indiana and allows us to be close to our customers: Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Nissan, Honda, and Toyota. Valeo Sylvania also operates a manufacturing facility in Queretaro, Mexico and a sales office in Dearborn, Michigan. The company is home to nearly 1,500 employees, and we are looking for talented individuals to join our team!

This exciting opportunity is designed for students in the Mechanical Engineering or Material Engineering areas of study and will provide exposure to manufacturing and design related aspects of automotive exterior lighting and offers the opportunity to experience process constraints and their impact on product design. You will work alongside talented engineers and scientists and receive hands-on job experience focusing on the following areas:

•Define the thermal resistance properties of lens grade clear materials with different wall thickness, processing conditions and hard coat and anti-fog coatings: Define how thin a lens can be made without failure (Bulk Stress). Evaluate Bayer AL-2247, AL-2447 & AL-2647 PC's and 1803 Apec. Define the impact of the UVT-200V1, UVT-610 & ICK109 coatings and process. Define thermal resistant target value and upper and lower limits of lens materials

•Realize material analytical work (Warranty, Manufacturing, Engineering, Design issues): Conduct FTIR, DSC, TGA, and other material analytical methods. Define resin moisture analysis technique with OmniMark3. Define resin viscosity measurement methods. Define additional FTIR library to support analytical

•Update Engineering Material and Performance Specifications for thermoplastic resins, adhesives, automotive coatings, components, etc. and consolidate with Valeo standards: Research Automotive OEM specifications / SAE and Federal regulations for lighting. Present completed EMS & EPS documents for approval and integration with Valeo. Work with Standards Group to identify changes and streamline implementation.

Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution pursuing a Bachelor's level degree in an engineering discipline. Must have authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
