Linux Systems Administrator

LINUX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Setup, commissioning of IS Services managed Servers and infrastructure for service delivery.
- Linux configuration and Security (Server Hardening) for Performance and Security
- Linux Server management and monitoring and the use of supporting management tools to provide strong operational best practices.
- Liaising with external service providers as necessary.
- Involved in systems capacity planning, monitoring, tuning and optimisation.
- Infrastructural service application operational support eg service patching, Logs, service backup
- Working within a team to manage the infrastructure to support Colleges Services eg F5 Loadbalancers, IPAM
- Windows Active Directory domain integration.
- Involved in continuous improvement works projects.
- Responsible for service infrastructure documentation, statistics and reporting.
- Scripting in a Linux and Windows environment.
- Maintain detailed project plans with timelines, milestones, resource requirements and Responsibilities for allocated projects
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Hold a formal 3rd level Degree or higher in an IT. related area
- At least 3 years' experience in a Linux Systems Administrator role is essential including design, setup, management, administration and security of UNIX services preferably Redhat Enterprise Linux.
- Experience with Scripting in Perl, PHP and bash
- Experience with MySQL and preferable MySQL clustering
- Experience with GPFS
- Thorough knowledge of DNS and DHCP, and experience with InfoBlox preferable.
- Experience in Linux Server Management and Monitoring.
- Experience of loadbalancer preferable F5s.
- Linux Certification will be an advantage
- Additional relevant professional qualifications would be advantageous
