Projektbeschreibung

LIGHTING SYSTEMS DESIGNER

A Lighting Systems Designer with Lighting Systems, Illumination, Design and Electrical Calculations experience is required to work on a nine month contract with the possibility of extension for our defence client based in Glasgow.

This is a nine month contract working for a leading defence company.

OVERVIEW OF THE LIGHTING SYSTEMS DESIGNER CONTRACT ROLE

The project has the first vessel commencing setting to work and commissioning and the second vessel currently in manufacture. The main design has long been completed, with a vessel of this complexity there are integration, setting to work and installation issues which result in design changes plus customer driven changes, many of which are minor, but some of which are significant. Changes to the lighting system are indirect as a result of compartment arrangement changes, and equipment changes which could either result in lighting being obscured (equipment increased height casting shadows, or the required lit area changing (worktop repositioned requiring lighting repositioning or additional lighting, or clashes with other equipment).

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE LIGHTING SYSTEMS DESIGNER

- Calculate illumination levels to determine the impact of design changes.
- Knowledge of RELUX and DIALUX lighting design software or equivalent.
- Understand the required illumination levels for different applications (general lighting, workshop lighting, machinery space lighting, weather deck lighting and floodlighting).
- Ability to interpret arrangement drawings and make appropriate changes to lighting positions where illumination calculations indicate a need to change lighting arrangement (reposition light fittings or insert additional light fittings).
- Ability to interpret Lighting System drawings and Schedules, and make appropriate changes where illumination calculations indicate a need to change lighting system (reduce or increase numbers of light fittings, or change type of fitting). Updates to Bill of Materials and Cabling Schedules.
- Ability to review electrical loading on distribution panels and confirm or change cables and protection levels accordingly, maintaining selectivity and discrimination and maintaining acceptable voltage drop. On occasion this may lead to using "spare" distribution ways, creating additional circuits and specifying additional cables and light fittings.
- Familiarity with UK lighting Standards additional cables and light fittings.
- Familiarity with Electrical Safety at work standards and IEE Wiring Regulations.
- Review change requests for any changes which may impact on the lighting system and ensure that the change request covers those changes or raise additional change requests to cover the impact on lighting.
- Attend Change reviews to report progress against change requests.
- Where there are issues in manufacture impinging on the lighting system, visit the vessels to understand the issue and scope potential solutions. Such issues could range from obstructions requiring re-siting of fittings through to ordering replacement of damaged fittings.
- Liaise with ship workforce to understand any issues raised by the workforce. Discuss the potential impact of design changes with the workforce ( knock on effect on inspections following compartment completion).

The role is based in Glasgow - Commutable from Kilmarnock, Paisley, Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Edinburgh
